Peer Leadership is being offered in the 2015-2016 school year. The program advisors will head a selection committee to select qualified students to be Peer Leaders. The application and selection process includes:
1. Filling out an application and submitting it to Ms. Pooler in the Main Office BY

Peer Group’s focus is to improve a student’s ability to make appropriate decisions and choices, to help freshmen transition from middle school to high school, to cope with academic and social pressures, to provide peer leaders with training in group dynamics and leadership skills, and to have fun.
Peer Leaders will be enrolled in an academic class of seniors and two advisors, which will meet three class periods a week. In addition, they will meet two lunch blocks a week leading a small group of freshmen. The leaders will be working in pairs or triads to develop a strong bond/rapport within their groups. Freshmen look to their leaders and are influenced by them in many ways.
Students selected to become Peer Leaders will be responsible for a serious commitment of time and energy. They will be in a position of leadership and will be put in the position of helping and supporting others. Some activities may require being excused from school.
Other requirements of Peer Leaders are:
1. Punctuality and excellent attendance.
2. Mandatory

On Wednesday, January 18th, I was introduced to my On-Campus Leadership facilitators Marylyn Silverstein and Michael Hargrove. Marylyn introduced herself to the class as a living coordinator in the Jardine complex. She went over what her routinely tasks consist of, what responsibilities she has, and what daily work she must keep up with as a living coordinator. Although, after she got through all the formalities, Marylyn began to feel more relaxed and talk more about her personal life. For one, Marylyn adores cats. She has a passion for traveling and indulging in new cultures and traditions. Marylyn loves her job as a living coordinator because she can meet different people with a diverse set of backgrounds. The other facilitator, Michael also…

Although I have served as a leader in everything from the Humane Society to science club, working as a group leader at my school’s cheerleading camp taught me the most! As a summer camp leader, I was entrusted with a group of thirty campers with ages ranging from four to ten as well as a small group of my peers. I was responsible for teaching the mini-campers how to dance, cheer, and tumble, ultimately preparing them for the parent performance. My additional leadership duties included moving the group to stations on time, creating routines, cheers, and games to keep the kids busy, and finally, settling disagreements among the girls. By the end of the experience, I learned teamwork, patience, and how to mix fun with focus, which ultimately…

The energy from the room and the willingness to participate is evident in almost everyone taking the course. In my group in the class, and in most groups, I am the facilitator. I do my best to lead without taking over (though sometimes I may not succeed). I always try to listen to everyone’s contribution and keep the group on track. As for the rest of my group, Morgan is the recorder and Taylor is the checker. However, in order for our group to succeed in this class, we will all have to play a little of each role. Knowing the people in my group, I believe we can…
