PREFACE
The Igbo age grade system is a social phenomenon which is organized in various age grade unions. Members discuss matters that are peculiar to them and as a result make their situations better.
They also improve the environment in which they live by looking after it. They administer it by disciplining erring individuals, contributing towards its development and conflict resolution through communal labour, constructing and maintaining roads, building town halls and bridges, providing portable water and among other efforts protect their communities from military attacks.

Yet his attitude echoes so much of the depiction of Africa; this attitude, following Achebe's depiction of the Igbo, seems hollow and savage. Digression is one of Achebe's most important tools. Although the novel's central story is the tragedy of Okonkwo, Achebe takes any opportunity he can to digress and relate anecdotes and tertiary incidents. The novel is part documentary, but the liveliness of Achebe's narrative protects the book from reading like an anthropology text. We are allowed to see the Igbo through their own eyes, as they celebrate the various rituals and holidays that mark important moments in the year and in the people's live.…

As the case study covered in this study demonstrates, “peacemaking and post-conflict reconstruction are best achieved by addressing structural injustices. Peacemaking has everything to do with the ongoing management of social and political conflicts through good governance. It encompasses the entrenching of respect for human rights and political pluralism, and the elimination of economic injustice” (Cheru 2002, 196).…

What if the world was dominated by men? What if all women had no say in things they believe, and every woman’s voice was considered useless? From the 1800’s up until today, women all around the world have been told they can be nothing more than a housewife and man’s eye candy. Thanks to brilliant trailblazers like Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, and Lucy Stone, the term feminism has been well respected and has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. Now more than ever, feminism has allowed women across the world to use their voice, and do everything a man can do, and better.…

The turn of the 20th century in nigeria was a time of great social change. The tightening grasp of colonialism was changing the way. The forced collision of the culture of the Nigerians and that of the british colonizers rapidly changed the way of life for the local people. There seem to be two different and often conflicting ideas about tradition in the igbo during this period. From the way that people are wed to the trade of human being, almost every aspect of igbo life is affected by the europeans.…

There are three main tribes in Nigeria, which are: the Igbos, the Hausas and the Yorubas. Over the years, these three tribes broke into more than 50 little ethnic groups. Among these three, Yorubas has proven to be the most dominant. The Yoruba are one of the largest African ethnic groups south of the Sahara Desert. They are, in fact, not a single group, but rather a collection of diverse people bound together by a common language, history, and culture. Within Nigeria, the Yoruba dominate the western part of the country. The Yoruba homeland can be located in West Africa. It stretches from a savanna (grassland) region in the north to a region of tropical rain forests in the south. Most Yoruba live in Nigeria. However there are also some scattered groups in Benin and Togo, small countries to the west of Nigeria. Current census figures are difficult to obtain. The Yoruba population is estimated to be 5.3 million. The occupations and living conditions of the Yoruba in the north and south differ from one another sharply. According to the editors of Britannica “Their towns became densely populated and eventually grew into the present-day cities of Oyo, Ile-Ife, Ilesha, Ibadan, Ilorin, Ijebu-Ode, Ikere-Ekiti, and others.” (britannica)…
