It is a culture to show that she is preserving herself for the one she really wants to spend the rest of her life with. Of course it also gives her time to significantly determine your intentions if they are true or not. You have to consider also the fact that you are not the only one who is trying to woo her. This culture also gives her ample time to figure out which ones is she going to commit herself to. Wooing a Filipina does not come on a silver platter. If she is very traditional you have to visit her at home and you are not allowed to sit beside her. On this note, you will formally meet her parents and the rest of the family. The men in the family will test you more often than not that sometimes you just have to swallow your pride. If you are serious with her then you have to. Until you get a place in the family's heart then that's where you are going stay for the meantime. When you will finally make take that place in their family it will be sweet glory on a pedestal. You will be assured also that you have the whole family to back up your relationship with her. As it was written the Philippines dating culture, all these are necessary to test your patience and measure your effort.
The Tagalog word for 'courtship' is panliligaw.A common statement by Filipino men said to Filipinas:
Gusto kitang ligawan.I want to court you.
This is to ask for permission to woo the woman. If she says no, then she is definitely not interested. If she says anything that is not a no, you have the go-ahead to try your hand at winning her affection. The traditional way of courting a Filipino woman is not to go out on a date. You have to visit her at home in the evening and talk to her in the sala (living room) with her parents watching nearby. You just chat for a few weeks. Don't dare draw close to her or they will think you are manyakis (a sex maniac). If her parents approve of your behavior, then maybe they'll allow her to go out with you if you politely ask them for permission. But there has to be a chaperone -- maybe the mother or her yaya (the paid help who raised her) or the most trusted maid of the household who will carry the umbrella to shield her ward from the sun. (You can only go out in broad daylight.)You can walk in the park or some other public place. Your goal here is to endear yourself to the chaperone so that she'll allow you some time alone with the woman of your dreams. Then maybe you could sneak a kiss on her cheek or she'll let you hold her hand. Maybe you could talk about your plans to elope and escape her strict parents. Due to the influence of Hollywood and Western culture in general, things are changing in Filipino cities. Going out on Western-style dates is now common. And a chaperone? Ay, that's so old-fashioned!

But first, did you know the difference of culture and tradition? What is culture? What is tradition? In India, praying at 5 o’clock in the morning and sang the hymns of the day at that time is their culture, it’s like “Angelus” praying at 6 o’clock in the morning or 12 o’clock in the afternoon in the Catholics in the Philippine tradition; ash and smeared on forehead in Indian culture is like “Ash Wednesday” tradition in the Philippines; if you committed innumerable offenses like eating beef and other offenses, you may lost your right in both religion (Hinduism) and caste have similarities in Iglesia ni Cristo who are not allowed to eat “Dinuguan” and Muslims who are not allowed to eat meats (tradition in the Philippines); has hospitality to the visitors is also the same in Philippine culture; has a “betrothal ceremony” has a similarity in courting before the agreement to be married, in the Philippine culture; in Indian culture, the oldest woman in the house became the head of the family while in the Philippine culture, the father is the head of the family; in Indian culture, the bride must learn all the household chores, etc. is same of the culture of the Philippines but if you’re rich and can afford servants or maids, the servants/maid will do the chores for you; And in India there was a prejudice not only against inter-caste marriages but against inter-community too but the Philippines doesn’t have that type of culture, and I’m proud to say that, that we have a democratic country and we can…

Filipino's are not more family oriented than in other cultures, but what makes them Filipino's is they think they are. No offense. But many people have strong relations with their families. I lived in a home for six months and had to listen to my Brother in law tell me how family oriented they are as he yells at his father, and puts down his dead mother. I watched as just about every male member of the family had girlfriends, and the wives knew and ran those girls out of town when they got pregnant. I watched families that lived across the street visit each other once a year. I had a Filipino tell me that my daughter (half Filipino isn't Filipino enough to live in his house with my 2nd wife for a short time). So in any respect, I'm not say they are less family oriented, but that we all have our issues with getting along, and Filipinos are no more family oriented than other cultures.…

Consequently, the literacy rate rose rapidly, and first fictional texts written in the language of the new rulers were published shortly after the change. Already during the 1920s the former elite language was replaced by English, soon also practiced as a medium of fiction. In the 1940s, some authors writing in English, such like Jose Garcia Villa and Carlos Bulosan, were even noticed outside the country.…
