Game: Takbo Mula Sa Mumu
Requirements:
Flour
3 Pieces of Manila Paper
3 Paper plates
History:
The Philippine culture is plagued with so many stories passed down from one generation to the next. Amongst the many stories passed down are stories about the dark and scary multos which wreak havoc during the night. Kids are taught by their parents to show respect and caution when travelling in the dark. The game’s storyline begins with a kid disrupting the creatures of the night.
Mechanics:
1. There will be two opposing teams each composed of three to four players. Using a game of jack and poy, the winner will decide whether they will act as the “mumu” or the “bata”, who will be chased during the game.
2. The team who chooses to be the “mum” must have three players. Each player will hide behind the manila paper and will be assigned a certain multo in Philippine mythology. In our case, they were assigned to be the manananggal, tiyanak, and bampira.
3. The team who chooses to be the “bata” must have four players. One member will act as the bata. There are three other players who are stationed at the plates containing flour.
In the flour plates are pieces of paper in which the respective antidotes are written on them. For the game, that would be asin for the manananggal, bawang for the bampira and holy water for the tiyanak. The three other members of the “bata” team will be situated behind the paper plates.
4. The “bata” will choose between the three manila papers what type of monster will chase him. Upon choosing the monster, the game officially begins. The objective of the game is for the bata to get the flour from the appropriate paper plate and to put some on the monster’s face so that he/she will be able to slay the monster.
5. Once the game begins, the teammates of the “bata” can start identifying which plate contains which “monster slayer ingredient”. The “mumu”
