Narrabeen is a beachside suburb located on Sydney’s northern beaches with a population of just over 6000 people. It is known for its long stretch of beach, over 3 kilometres, with four beaches on this stretch: North Narrabeen, Narrabeen, South Narrabeen and Collaroy. The Narrabeen coastal environment consists of these beaches as well as the lagoon located at the north end of the beach. Surrounding areas are on a floodplain, meaning that high sea levels, large amounts of rain and runoff from nearby hills and mountains can lead to flooding occurring.…

Coastal areas can be protected from the effects of natural processes, for example the effects of erosion, deposition, transportation, weathering and mass movement. The most problematic of these is erosion. There are three types of erosion: hydraulic action, abrasion and attrition which all contribute together to erode cliffs, causing the coastline to be vulnerable and weaker. The cause of erosion can then lead to mass movement for example rock fall and slumping which can affect the coastline greatly due to them changing it quite considerably.…

Specified variables can include many things such as soil quality, access to water, utilities, the specified land uses proximity to highways and other things, vegetation, and slope. These factors add to the overall numerical value of the suitability analysis score. Nevertheless, the SA score is a numerical score calculated from the suitability factors and its ratings of these factors either raise the locations score to a low, medium, or high numerical value. This weighted value indicates the overall suitability for the specific land usage of a specified parcel of land. The suitability score for a zone is determined by multiplying the factor weight and the adding up all the products, producing you the score of a zone. (Kockelman et al., 2008)…

Earthquakes, typhoons, and tornadoes continue to devastate the United States and the entire plant through the activities of planet Earths natural movement and global warming elements. Earthquakes can happen at any time using the plate tectonics theory as individual faults where Earth ruptures and the two sides move past each other. (Abbott, 2012) They are defined as: the divergent or pull-apart motion at spreading centers cause rock to fail in tension; the slide-past motion occurs as the rigid plates fracture and move around the curved Earth; and the convergent motion that occur at subduction zones and in continent-continent collisions store immense amounts of energy that are released in Earth’s largest tectonic earthquakes. (Abbott, 2012) Typhoons (Hurricane) are huge tropical cyclones in which heat is built up over long periods of summer heat over seawater at least 80 degrees Fahrenheit, 200ft of ocean; the air is warm, humid, and unstable enough to sustain convection. (Abbott, 2012) The tropical disturbance is the development of low-pressure with the organization of thunderstorms with very weak surface winds. Tornadoes are normally descending from large thunderstorms and create the strongest winds of any weather phenomena. Tornadoes are extremely dangerous with most violent US tornadoes moving from southwest to northeast with winds speeds to register at 310 mph. (Abbott, 2012) In 2012; natural disasters cost the United States over $160 billion with 9500 people losing life. Hurricane Sandy is responsible for the majority of economic loss in 2012. ABSTRACT: This paper presents the findings of a study on the environmental impacts of the Manila Bay reclamation project. The study area is at the coastal area of Pasay, a city of roughly 400,000 people. The focus of the study was on the changes in the environment that will be brought about by land reclamation. Qualitative descriptive analysis was used as an approach. Data were gathered from government institutions and comparative studies, and from a set of questionnaires handed out to a total of 10 respondents. Results showed that reclamation will affect land subsidence, worsen the threat of storm surges, increase the threat of liquefaction and endanger mangroves and marine life. The study also showed that reclamation will stimulate the economy, create jobs and strengthen Pasay as the country's entertainment mecca.…

The Philippines is an archipelago of 7,107 islands in the South China Sea located between Taiwan to the north and Borneo to the south. Just 2,000 of its islands are inhabited and only 500 are larger than a kilometer square. The nine largest islands of Luzon, Mindanao, Palawan, Panay, Mindoro, Samar, Negros, Leyte and Cebu make up 90% of the nation's land area. The Philippines is mountainous in nature. The highest mountain is Mt. Apo, which is located in Mindanao. The second largest is Mt.Pulog in Luzon. There are recorded 50 volcanoes and most of them are still active. The most famous is Mt. Mayon, known as the world's most perfect cone. One can find here the lowest volcano in the world, called Taal Volcano (History of the Philippines 1). The country has only a few rivers and they abound in small mountains streams, which swell up as much as three times their size during the rainy season. The climate of the Philippines is divided mainly in two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season. The cool dry season extends from December to February and is followed by the hot dry season that is from March to May. The rainy season begins in June and continues to November.
