President McKinley thought it was wise to spread the fortune and good interests of Americans to the Philippine nations. The Americans took them all to educate the Filipinos, and uplift and civilize them, and Christianize them. It seemed that McKinley’s sole purpose for the brutal treatment of the Filipinos was to civilize them. It was this idea that was presented and accepted by the American public. It was not accepted so lightly by the Filipino people. The idea of a country across the Pacific ruling them was unthinkable. They rose in revolt against the United States. Everything…

William Howard Taft, the first American Governor General of the Philippines and later the 27th President of the United Sates, coined the term “Our Little Brown Brother,” referring to the people of the Philippines. Taft "assured President McKinley that 'our little brown brothers' would need 'fifty or one hundred years' of close supervision ‘to develop anything resembling Anglo-Saxon political principles and skills.’”1 This comes from another text Stuart Creighton Miller wrote on the war in the Philippines, but it gives us a understanding that we as Americans see the Filipino people as inferior and they would need time to develop to first world standards. Miller in his essay American Racism and Lawlessness in the Philippines shows that the U.S. military involvement in the Philippines was similar to the massacres and racial hatred of the Indians during the Indian wars on the Great Plains.…

Pagsanjan Falls (indigenous name: Magdapio Falls) is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Philippines. Located in the province of Laguna, the falls is one of the major tourist attractions of the region. The three-drop waterfall is reached by a river trip on dugout canoe, known locally as Shooting the rapids, originating from the municipality of Pagsanjan. The falls can also be reached from the top by a short hike from Cavinti. The boat ride has been an attraction since the Spanish Colonial Era with the oldest written account in 1894.The town of Pagsanjan lies at the confluence of two rivers, the Balanac River and the Bumbungan River (also known as the Pagsanjan River).…

The metatarsal of Callao Man is reported to have been reliably dated by uranium-series dating to 67,000 years ago[16] thereby replacing the Tabon Man of Palawan, carbon-dated to around 24,000 years ago[17][18] as the oldest human remains found in the archipelago. Negritos were among the archipelago's earliest inhabitants but their appearance in the Philippines has not been reliably dated.[19] There are several opposing theories regarding the origins of ancient Filipinos. F. Landa Jocano theorizes that the ancestors of the Filipinos evolved locally. Wilhelm Solheim's Island Origin Theory[20] postulates that the peopling of the archipelago transpired via trade networks originating in the antediluvian Sundaland area around 48000 to 5000 BCE rather than by wide-scale migration. The Austronesian Expansion Theory states that Malayo-Polynesians coming from Taiwan began migrating to the Philippines around 4000 BCE, displacing earlier arrivals.[21][22] Whatever the case, by 1000 BCE the inhabitants of the archipelago had developed into four kinds of social groups: hunter-gathering tribes, warrior societies, petty plutocracies, and maritime-centered harbor principalities.[23]…

Any questions regarding the decision of McArthur, more specifically, his decision to leave the Philippines is not in the realm in which this paper will be researched. Studying McArthur and his decisions is a massive rabbit hole that would easily steer me away from what I need to be researching. Thus all questions regarding the General will be selected with extreme caution. However, there will be one main question that I will answer through this paper. This is a question that is what makes this research worth studying in the first place. Could the Americans have successfully have taken back the Philippines from the Japanese without the help of the Filipino guerrillas or the Commonwealth of the Philippines? My research will make it clear to all who read it that, without the efforts of the Commonwealth in the favor of the Americans, retaking the Philippines would have been next to impossible. It became possible for the Americans to return not only through the actions of the Commonwealth but also for the simple reason that these rebels needed to pick a side. So, if they did not pick the side of the Americans they would have been siding with the Japanese creating an even bigger opposition for McArthur and even possibly creating a country that would not be worth America trying to…
