Phoenix High School Observation
It's a long day at Phoenix College, I was exhausted and needed some sleep. I was also starving because I missed breakfast and didn't have any snacks throughout the day. So I eventually decided to go eat with my girlfriend due to my hunger and my need for company. My girlfriend and I went to Cane's Raising Chicken Finger further late that evening. When we got to the restaurant we rushed inside because it was furiously burning hot outside as we wanted to avoid the heat as much as possible. The restaurant politely greeted us as we walked up to the cashier. We began to order, our order was six chicken fingers, two Texas toasts, two sauces, a side of fries and a lemonade. Without assistance, we found a booth and sat down. It took a couple of

The hostess seated me, the waiter let me know the salad bar was included and all you can eat, and everything seemed fine. After I got my first round of grub from the salad bar, I noticed that people were coming over from the other side of the restaurant. I also noticed that I was seated all alone to the opposite side. Out of curiosity, I wandered over and noticed two things. First, I was the only Black patronizing this particular dining establishment at that time. Second, while I did not receive any ill treatment I had been segregated from the other…

The atmosphere at Applebee's was very pleasant and our waiter was friendly and accommodating. We counted seven courtesies (please, thank you, your welcome, may I help you, etc.) that he said to us. Unfortunately, we did overhear another waiter making unprofessional complains about their customer. Our waiter also told us that he had been in the service industry for nine years and had been working at Applebee’s for two years. He had the most…

The ones who were able to get seated, didn’t get their food fast enough. So they were displeased. As I observed all customers were no happy. One person at each table were aggravated and it showed on their face. The workers were very nice and pleasant. They would greet and take care of everyone apparently and promptly. When I would look into each of the relationships of each table, I would learn how a son and mother got along. I saw how he cared for her and how well he took care of her. Their nonverbal messages let me know what their relationship was and gave me reassurance that there are great children out…

It was a very hectic midday, and everyone was trying to meet the midday rush. It was one of those days that the weather was not welcoming, and not just a bad weather, but the Environment was not either. The temperature inside was not much better than outside, Hence patrons were all trying to move as fast they could to get out; some was impatient while other were patiently waiting in line, while some patrons fetch themselves hot beverages and soups at the self-served section, others catch on and they too started serving themselves with hot beverages in order to get out quickly. For my social norm violation I decided to order Burger King’s and Wendy’s food at McDonald’s. I chose to break this social norm because, here in America, the majority of people know what type of food each fast food chain offers. For example, everyone knows that a Big Mac is from McDonald’s and a Whopper is from Burger King. I wanted to see the reaction I would get from the McDonald’s employees if I tried to order a Whopper and a baconator. So, I went to the McDonald’s on Weber at a time when it wasn’t busy (so I wouldn’t hold up the line if I took a long time). I pulled up to the McDonald’s drive-thru menu and the man asked me what I wanted. I told him that I would take 2 Whoppers with no cheese and a small fry. At first, he said ok but then realized what I had just said. He…

Last week, an Asian family entered the restaurant and had been seated. After initially greeting them and getting their drink orders, the family had explained how they had been at another restaurant right before they came to eat at this one. They had to leave the other restaurant because after 40 minutes had passed, no server or any staff member had acknowledged the family, as they heard the staff fight over who was going to be stuck taking their table. Instead of observing the interactions that occur in my own restaurant, I chose to go to another restaurant in the area and listen in on what was going on around me. Our server was a polite girl, most likely a college student, and Caucasian. From a server’s standpoint, she was friendly, informative, and quick with everything that we had needed. A few minutes after we had been settled in, a table was sat behind us. It was an Indian family of four; the mother, the father, and two little boys. Listening in, it was shocking to find…

I have had the opportunity to go to two middle schools due to moving locations. This paper is going to be based on my experiences at Hermosa Middle School in Farmington, New Mexico. Since, this where I started caring more about my education and I can relate more to this placement. To begin with, Hermosa Middle School serves grade from 6th-8th. The demographic in this school is about 42% Caucasian, 31% Hispanic, 23% Native-American, 2% Asian, and 2% African-American. Notice, that there is a high population of Hispanics, I believe that this is why I started to be more involve at school. Prior to moving to Farmington, New Mexico; I lived and attended a junior high school in Huntington, Utah where 5% were Hispanic. I can honestly state, “That Hermosa Middle School is a contemporary developmentally responsive middle schools”. I quote this because I can point out the differences between what both schools had offered me as a student.…

True event: When I was a younger man back in 1973 or 74, I was out in (Royal Oak) near the (Detroit Zoo). I cannot remember the reason I went out there more than likely just joy riding, I use to do a lot of that when I was younger since the age of 18, and mostly I have driven new cars all my adult life. I saw a sign for a delicatessen that offered corn beef sandwiches among others; so I stopped, and went in to buy a sandwich. When I entered there were people already in line placing and receiving their orders and more people came in after me; you did not need to have a number for your turn to place an order. The order taker or waitress a (white female), was doing a good job of calling the correct person for their orders until my turn was up. When my turn came the order taker asked someone for their order that I felt entered after I did, but I saw not sure. Anyway after this person made their order (MY turn), wrong; she asked someone else could she help them, but what she did not know was that me and this person had short small talk while waiting our turn. Instead of stepping up to place an order, this person said; I think gentlemen is suppose next, the order taker said (oh sorry), and asked me (what do you want)! I looked at her and said not a thing from this place, and turned and walked out. As I left I could hear a few people telling her about manners and he was just another customer regardless. Oh did I mention that I was the only person of color in the delicatessen. I was not embarrassed, but angry as a (**********).…

Earlier this evening, I took my family of two sons out for dinner, and we were contemplating whether or not to go do Papa John’s or Domino's for pizza. We ultimately decided to go to Papa John’s due to previous visits being satisfying, but this time, we did not feel the same about the pizza and the employees. We waited for an hour for our pizza to come, the waiter was extremely rude and ignorant, and the pizza did not taste nor look like pizza. My family and I deserve a full refund and an apology for what had occurred at your restaurant today.…

    Breaking a Social Norm

For my breaking a social norm, my friends and I wanted to do something creative that no one in my class would do. So in a couple of minutes of thinking we figure something creative. Our plan was to go to McDonalds and use the drive thru to order our order, but the catch is that I was supposed to walk to the drive thru with no car just me standing there ordering my order and when they said to pull up to the next widow I would just walk to the window and pay and walk to the other window to get my order. We did this after the homecoming dance around like 10:40. So I basically I got of the car I started walking to the drive thru and I was basically stuck in traffic. I got behind this black ford SUV and I waited for my turn. So finally it was my turn and I order everything on the dollar menu. But my friends also told me to say “god damn!” while I order something. So I sounded like this “can I get a goddamn McChicken” So the guy said please drive up to the next window and I started walking. When I got there you should’ve seen his reaction like he was expecting a car not a guy walking to the drive thru. He didn’t say anything he just gave me change back and I started walking to the next window to pick up my order.…

After evaluating all the available options, I decided to go to a restaurant in the Melbourne CBD called 'Crazy Wings'. The main reason I picked that restaurant was because the food was cheap and after reading the customer reviews I was convinced that the food they served was actually spicy. The only perceived risks which I was worried about was physical risks as in few of the customer reviews, I saw that few of the customers fell sick after having the food. To eliminate the risk, I put up a status on my Facebook to get some feedback on the restaurant from people who visited it. Luckily, a few of my friends did go there and…
