Photosynthesis Lab Report
The rate of photosynthesis in each of the beakers will depend what is wrapped around the beakers such as red and blue cellophane, as well as the control of the experiment the beaker without cellophane. The cellophane will directly impact the light getting absorbed as well as the amount of CO2 in the beakers. Which overall as result will determine the final color of the water mixed with bromothymol blue. What was being measured was the color of the water after CO2 has been blown in the beakers. The Experiment would involve 4 different beakers which all contained the same amounts of BTB, water and elodea (The Constants) to ensure the overall experiment was more foolproof. The control was the beaker that had no cellophane over it to show what it would look like and how the different colors of cellophane would affect that The independent variable was the light frequency which would overall determine the level of acidity in each solution which is the dependent variable. …show more content…
Our group took off the different types of cellophane and viewed the colors of the water. The water colored with blue cellophane was a greenish blue color, the green cellophane was a greenish yellow, the one with no cellophane was a dark blue which meant it received a surplus amount of oxygen which changed its color from a green because a part of the experiment was to blow CO2 into the water with straws and see how the cellophane affects the color of the water.     Photosynthesis is a process to which some autotrophs such as plants produce their own food. It has two stages or reactions light-dependent and light-dependent reactions. The light dependent reactions are the first stage, where energy from sunlight is captures in Photosystem 2 and then 1, the electrons generated in Photosystem 1 then moves along the electron transport chain. The moving of electrons causes a hydrogen ion gradient that is used in the final step to produce ATP, by the ATP Synthase. The equation for this reaction is 6CO2 + 6H2O  C6H12O6+6O2 or, carbon dioxide +water sugars + oxygen . This reaction takes place on the thylakoid membrane of the chloroplast and uses energy from sunlight to produce compounds like ATP and NADPH. The second stage of photosynthesis is the Calvin Cycle, which takes place in the stoma of the chloroplast. This stage is light-independent or it does not need energy from sunlight. During this reaction ATP and NADPH from Stage 1are used to produce high energy sugars. The reaction is 3CO2 + 6NADPH + 5H2O + 9ATP  G3P + 2H+ + 6NADP+ + 9ADP + 8Pi . Additionally, the three limiting factors of photosynthesis are the light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration, and the temperature.
