Photosynthesis Lab Report
Abstract: Two parts of this lab were performed involving photosynthesis and cellular respiration. The first part of the lab consisted of cutting out spinach leaf disks with a straw and then putting them into syringes containing an infiltration solution and sodium bicarbonate. Then the syringes were place under the presence of light and watched as certain disks floated. This part of the lab consisted of watching photosynthesis take place. Then for the second part of the lab we tested cellular respiration by putting the syringes in box containing no light and then waited for the spinach disks to sink. The exact process is under Laboratory Procedures in Lab 8 and Lab 9 (Kvaal 2007). The results concluded that the full light spectrum had more of a linear outcome compared to the green light. Introduction: Photosynthesis is an important process for all living things including Homo sapiens (Vitousek 1986). Photosynthesis is basically the conversion of energy. During photosynthesis carbon dioxide, water, and light energy are all consumed. The products of photosynthesis includes glucose, water, and oxygen. Photosynthesis is important for the survival of all living things. In other words without photosynthesis life would not exist. Cellular respiration is a process that converts energy from nutrients into ATP. Also, cellular respiration consumes glucose and oxygen. Therefore, the final products of cellular respiration include carbon dioxide, water, and energy or heat or ATP. Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are both processes that share common factors among each other (Brown 2009). They are both very important processes that exist in our world today.
