In this chapter I will be talking about how physical and psychological changes that can occur within ageing and how this could affect an individual.
P5- explain the physical and psychological changes which may be associated with ageing.
M3- discuss the effects on self-esteem and self-confidence of the physical changes associated with ageing. Issue | Explanation | Ageism | Older people are sometimes stereotyped as being ineffective, sickly, uncontrolled and unable to cope. they may experience prejudice from younger people who see them as 'end of their time'. Many older people worry that they will not be treated with dignity in hospital or care settings.Princess Diana never had and prejudice or discrimination against her because of her age, this is because she died at such a young age. never the less she took an early interest in charities and she helped others to live a longer and better lifestyle and to make a difference. this would have effected Princess Diana's self-esteem and confidence this is because the public loved what she was doing and she felt positive that she was making a change to society. | Role changes | The vast majority of elderly people enjoy the effectiveness of social networking, this is because it provides them with contact with relatives and friends without actually being next to them. Princess Diana has two children, she had to change her role from being a full time Princess to a mom, however Princess Diana got divorced and this would have affected her self-esteem and confidence as she would have felt like she was by herself, this led to a eating disorder and depression. and she would have found this difficult to cope for a while. Princess Diana had many friends at her school(s) who she could socialise with however her mother and father split so this would have damaged her self-esteem and confidence and especially when it happened to herself as she grew older. | Loss of a partner |
