Physical Effects Of Abortion Negatively Affect The Woman Physically
Abortion is a very controversial topic across the United States of America. Some people believe that it is the woman’s choice to have an abortion and others believe that abortion should not even be an option. People have many different reasons as to why they are for or against abortion including religious beliefs, morals, personal beliefs, and some argue the fetus is a human being as soon as being conceived. People do not often consider the effects abortion has on the woman. Abortion negatively impacts the woman emotionally and physically.

Women can experience guilt, nervous systems, sleep disturbance, regrets, and also Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Some women can have such psychological effects that they commit suicide or harm themselves. After an induced abortion, the suicide rate increased. (Earll. 2013, p 1). When a woman gets an abortion, woman can also experience eating disorders, loss of self confidence, and relationship issues. (American Pregnancy Association. 2016. P. 1). According to Carrie Gordon Earll, as many as 60% of woman having an abortion experience some level of emotional distress. (Earll. 2013. P. 1). The statistics of women reporting negative reactions after an abortion is between 40 and 60%. Teenagers have a smaller cervix which makes it harder to dilate or grasp instruments therefore making teens twice as likely to experience cervical lacerations. Due to the fact that teenagers are not fully developed yet, they may be more susceptible to infections after an abortion. (Sobie, Reardon. 1001. p. 1). Teenagers have more dramatic physical effects due to abortion.
Positives Effects of Abortion
With there being many negative effects of abortion on the woman, there are also positive effects. In some cases, the abortion is a life or death situation on the woman. If a woman has a health issue that can potentially kill her if she is pregnant, abortion is the only option to make sure she stays alive. The baby could have a disease that would make his or her life difficult and the mother wants to make sure the baby doesn’t suffer. (Ladock. 2016. p 1). Many women have these positive effects knowing that the baby is in a better place.
