Working as an exercise scientist there gave me the burst of passion I needed to push me further and commit to pursuing my career goal of Physical Therapy. Learning was just part of my experience in Brisbane. I made relationships with people I am still close to today. I explored the majestic city of Queensland, making memories that have never been forgotten. I then took three years, still at USC, obtaining an education in Physical Therapy. The second I hopped off the plane, I drove to visit my beloved gym. By gym, I don’t me one with weights and treadmills. I'm referring to a gym with a four-inch block of wood raised three feet off the ground, two round parallel bars, and a forty-two by forty-two-foot spring floor. Gymnastics is not only my sport but also my passion. From the moment I turned five years old up until the moment I left this rock, my heart and soul was put into this sport. The first part of my promise consisted of re-entering the sport of gymnastics and using my newfound knowledge to help the gymnasts I once competed with, so the first step I took consisted of requesting a coaching position. To this day, I fulfill that promise, using the exercise science knowledge I gained through college to coach the children of my community. I feel that gymnastics is not only a fun form of exercise but a great facilitator of mental growth. By attaining wisdom about the different ways our bodies move, I incorporate precautions, like specific stretches and landing techniques, into each practice. In addition, I feel that gymnastics coaches do so much more than simply give instruction to help each gymnast achieve skills. They push just hard enough to spark the realization of one’s full potential and instill values that will be kept throughout an entire lifetime.
