When a person suffers from a disease or injury in that system, they will need to see a neurological therapist. These therapists work to restore mobility in a person’s life. Neurological therapy can sometimes be an alternative to surgery and pain medications. Adults who are usually assigned to neurological therapy suffer from strokes, traumatic brain injury (TBI), cerebral palsy, and even Parkinson’s disease. Neurological therapy programs usually consist of physical, occupational and speech therapy in one. These strategies promote many things such as: better mobility of the limbs, gait training, education of that specific disease or injury, advancement of visuospatial skills, self-care of daily activities, and managing medication. Each patient will have a different course of treatment depending on how severe their injury or disease is. Exercise therapy programs consists of a schedule with certain physical activities and workouts to achieve specific tonic goals, such as maximizing the strength of a person’s treated area. Anyone with chronic back pain, spinal cord injury, and even knee osteoarthritis can get assigned to exercise therapy. Most exercise therapy based programs are 12 weeks long, but in some cases they can be shorter and in some cases they may be longer. While most athletes in particular who pull a muscle, break a bone, or suffer a severe tear to one of their body tissues must enter an exercise therapy program. If a person goes to a specific clinic or facility with a great team of exercise therapists they will create the ultimate game plan in order for that person to gain the maximum amount of strength they can. In some cases, a patient will be enrolled in a 12 week program but they can also do exercises on their own at home. Although the person is being fully monitored at their facility during the rehabilitation program, their trainers and therapists may allow them to do specific types of work outs at home if they are not as strenuous as the ones already created for them at their facility.
