I learned how to diagnose a patient, different exercises, and ways to see how long their treatment will last. I learned what muscles work together and how to tell which one is lacking strength. I learned a lot more about how the body parts work together and why treatment is necessary for people. I thought that Physical Therapists just were given diagnoses of patients and then decided how to proceed, but I quickly learned that they do a lot of diagnostic work as well as exercises. It definitely helped me confirm my ambitions into going into the Physical Therapy field.

I would want my knowledge of different disorders/disabilities and different exercises enhanced. I would find it easier to understand why we do certain thing with the patients, although my therapist did a great job explaining everything to me. I felt like I was annoying, so I kind of dialed back on my questions.
What about this particular rotation did you find appealing/unappealing in terms of career choices?
I liked and disliked the fast pace environment at the same time. It made the day go by faster and we got to help more patients, but it also felt impersonal at times. Some people were there for an hour and I got to know a lot about them, others I were there for 15 minutes and sent off to one of the trainers. I also liked how the patients talked about their therapists, it made me feel like I would actually make a positive difference in their lives once I become a therapist.
What was your biggest take-away from this rotation?
My biggest take away point from this rotation was that PTs do a lot of diagnostic work and not all of their patients are doctor referred.
Is there anything concerning the internship that you would like to discuss?
