For me, this vision means changing society by addressing each patient’s needs differently than the next patient. It convinced me to pursue a path in medicine, so I could learn how to work the intricacies of our internal wiring. Taking AP Psychology also opened to me the field of neurology- the foray into the complex chemistry of our brains. Along with classes, I participated in medical-oriented clubs such as Health Professionals of America, which helped me experience life in the medical field. As well as clubs, I was an active player in the Girl’s Basketball team in freshman year. I also take archery lessons to improve my dexterity and stamina, which taught me the importance of persistence for improvement. Both my family and my own interest in medicine inspired me to pursue a career path towards Biology in college. Since medicine is increasingly becoming more corporal, I chose to complete a double degree in Biology and Healthcare Management- an option that only UT Dallas…

Through my experience shadowing physical therapists I have been able to see the true beauty of rehabilitating the human body and easing pain through movement. I know these accomplishments can be explained through science, but the body’s amazing ability to heal, along with the intricacy of the brain and its communication with the rest of the body have always seemed miraculous to me. I say that movement is a “simple” act, but when you get down to the basic science, it is absolutely incredible to see how much effort and design goes into each ‘simple’ motion. It could be argued that movement can enable the human body to heal and to grow more than many other forms of treatment. Movement is something that can not only enable a person to fully enjoy all that life has to offer, but it can also enable them to be a more healthy and active player in their own life. As a physical therapist, I hope that I will be able to better the lives of those around me, even in small ways. In my work, I will strive to inspire those who are hopeless, and to cheer on those who are making progress. I want to be an encourager, an advocate, and most importantly, I want to instill confidence in my patients. Whether it be to relieve a patient of chronic pain, or rehabilitate someone back to walking or playing their favorite sport, each milestone can be seen as a huge accomplishment. The human experience is one in which we all share, and when one person reaches their potential, society as a whole is improved. I believe that physical therapists can allow everyone to reach the point where they are able to take movement for granted, and I hope to one day be a part of giving that gift to…

What if people lived healthier lives, practiced preventive medicine, and took precautions against illness and disease? My days in the physical therapy department often made me think about the prevention of injuries as well as the injuries themselves. I was already doubting my future career choice as a physical therapist. Although I loved the science of it and helping people, the lack of variety within the field and its limited options for growth bothered me. I needed a career that helped a large number of people, emphasized prevention and primary care rather than tertiary care, and would continually challenge and motivate me to improve. Knowing that I really did not want to pursue physical therapy as I had originally planned, my thoughts wandered to the area of public health, particularly health management.…
