Please accept this letter as my formal application for the Athletic Training Residency Program at New Hampshire Musculoskeletal Institute. I will complete my Masters of Athletic Training at The University of Findlay in April 2016. I am currently doing coverage under an Athletic Trainer at a rehabilitative intensive clinical rotation at Ohio Orthopaedics, but have previously worked in the Division II collegiate and high school settings. A position within the NHMI Residency Program interests me because it would allow me to acquire more skills and techniques as a newly Certified Athletic Trainer while advancing in the profession. After spending time working with members of Bluffton University, The University of Findlay and Findlay High School…

Through research, I have discovered that Jade, a person of white ethnicity, prefers to play volleyball while Caralyne, a girl of Asian descent prefers to participate in soccer. However, Presley, a person of Indian descent, prefers to run. This supports my hypothesis that cultural background does affect what sports/physical activity people like to take part in.…

I’m willing to bet that if I went up to ten random people, that few to none of them would really know what an Athletic Trainer does. Most people are not educated about the role of Athletic Trainers because they are relatively new to the health care system. I believe that education is the key to making Athletic Training even more successful than it already is. For example, most of the club sports players at Towson have no idea that they can visit the Athletic Training clinic. I’ve heard the phrase “do no harm” so many times, but the possibility to do good decays exponentially when people don’t know what Athletic Trainers do and when those who should have access to this form of health care don’t know that they do. Though educating others about Athletic Trainers is one of my goals, it is not the main reason I want to become one. I want to be an Athletic Trainer because I…

Soccer is one of the most demanding physical high intensity field games played all over the world. The increasing demand to increase a player’s physical ability both at professional and amateur soccer has grown in recent years. The development of strength and power is paramount to success in most sports, especially those involving short-term, high-intensity efforts. Traditional Strength training programs improve the development of speed & power (Hakkinen and Hakkinen 1993; Rhea et al. 2003) and stability in an athlete leading to the possibility of better kicking performance, though it is important to recognize the role of strength in power Rostgaard et al. (2008). In a normal week amateur players train on average between 2 to 3 hours, these…

What is athletic training? Athletic training is the concern of the well being of the athlete and generally assumes the responsibility for overseeing the total health care for the athlete. This basically states that an athletic trainer's job is to be there for the athlete whether he/she is injured or not, and to practice the prevention of injury. By learning the proper techniques and steps to stretching, an athletic trainer can pass that information onto the athlete to help prevent common problems such as cramping. Another way of looking at an athletic trainer is that they must be prepared and capable of dealing with any type of trauma or catastrophic injury that may occur. If that wasn't enough, the NATA website offers this definition, "Certified athletic trainers (ATC's) are unique health care providers who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses that occur to athletes and the physically active."…
