I have always considered there cannot be a more noble calling than to heal hurt people. Naturally, when I was asked to research a career, I drifted toward the healthcare industry and decided to find out more about physician assistants. I previously did not know much about the physician’s assistant career. However, my research showed that this could be a very exciting and rewarding career that I may consider for myself.
Preconceptions
First, I chose physician’s assistant because it has always been an oddly obscure career from my perspective. I wanted to learn more about what they do since I do not know much about them. I know they do some diagnosis and treatment, but I do not know how their role differentiates from a nurse or family practice doctor. I also knew they are well paid which is usually around six figures. Although I had previously not considered this career, I chose this based on its listing as one of the highest paying and fastest growing jobs in the US.
Research
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this career is expected to grow 30% over the next eight years (BLS). I believe that I may look further into this as a career option for myself. I never had an interest in the role of a nurse nor the patience for eight years of (expensive) schooling plus a residency. This career finds the happy medium between the two, and has opportunities in numerous specialities.
