Physician Assistant Personal Statement
I vividly remember being in sixth grade extremely jealous of the eighth graders being able to dissect a pig while we as sixth graders got a worm. The anxiousness killed me knowing I had to wait two years but it was well worth the wait. I was always on time because I knew I wanted to get first pick on every set of instruments and specimen. I always lead our group and was always the first to make incisions while everyone else was grossed out. That’s when I realized I discovered something I truly enjoyed. In high school, we didn’t do much science but I took it upon myself to do experiments and conduct research on my own. In college, I took my very first Human Anatomy class which I knew instantly I had a passion for and where I was assured that the medical …show more content…
It was a job that resembled that of a Doctor but in a way, that better suited the route I wanted to take with my future. I could have the flexibility to switch between specialties like Emergency Medicine or Obstetrics and Gynecology. I would work in collaboration with a Physician which is also a great concept. Once I knew that and researched how or what was the best way to take the first steps to becoming a Physician Assistant I read that it was choosing a major that stood out to the admissions council. I started off with the school I want to go to which is UIC, and then I looked at the degree program list and saw “BS in Rehabilitation Sciences” and thought it was interesting so I continued to research this. What Rehabilitation Science encases is so intriguing it was a combination of anatomy of the human body which I love as well as how the body works, and administrative skills that would all be very useful in my future career as a Physician Assistant. The uniqueness of this program is what drives me to pursue it further. The end goal would be that this Bachelor’s degree would open many doors for me once I apply to a PA

In school, I have enjoyed learning sciences especially when the topics are related to human conditions. Ever since learning about general biology in my junior high school years ago, I have on my own taken additional anthropology, psychology, anatomy and chemistry classes from a local college for further enrichment and have grown very fond of learning the complexity in human machinery and interaction. Occasionally I do find learning these topics too weighty to continue. Whenever that happens now, I would always manage to pull through by remembering that particular good day where I acted as 'an orthopedic doctor'.…

I was introduced to the field I am interested in from my 9th grade biology class. The possibility of being able to do this in the future kept me engaged and I further pursued this interest by currently taking AP Biology. There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

Waking up in the middle of the night coughing and gasping for air occurred on a regular basis for me as a child. I slept with an inhaler and a nebulizer next to my bed in the event of the next attack. My asthma attacks were frightening for my parents and especially for me as I felt as if I was on the verge of death whenever I suddenly could not breathe. Although I was always in and out of emergency rooms and doctor visits at a young age, having tried everything from nebulizer treatments to bronchodilators, I was always comforted by the doctors and nurses who always took the time to explain and alleviate any concerns and anxiety I had. Seeing their devotion to their profession and for patient care has motivated me to pursue graduate study in the field of nursing to invest my future to coordinate and implement quality healthcare for others.…
