In the state of Oregon, during the ten years since they have implemented physician assisted suicide there number of successful deaths has grown. More precise statistics are provided here from an online article written by Alex Schadenburg on LifeNews.com written on January 30, 2013. “The number [of] assisted suicide deaths were: 77 in 2012, 71 in 2011, 65 in 2010 and 59 in 2009. There has been a 30% increase in the number of assisted suicide deaths in Oregon since 2009. The numbers of prescriptions for assisted suicide were 115 in 2012, 114 in 2011, 97 in 2010 and 95 in 2009. There has been a 21% increase in the number of prescriptions for assisted suicide in Oregon since 2009.” http://www.lifenews.com/2013/01/30/oregon-assisted-suicide-deaths-hit-record-high-in-2012/ We must face our facts and come to the realization as a nation that terminally ill patients want physician assisted suicide to be a choice. If we continue to ignore this proposition hundreds of people will continue to live with a life full of pain. In order to help relieve the pain of those who are suffering I will argue that it is time to pass today’s debate proposition:
Resolved that: The United States Federal Government should legalize physician-assisted suicide.

Physician Assisted Suicide: Physician assisted suicide is the voluntary termination of one’s own life by taking lethal medication with the direct or indirect assistance of a physician.
The U.S. Federal Government: The Federal
