Physics Of Boxing Research Paper
Did you know that there are a lot of physical concepts used in boxing? You should ask a boxer if he/she knows the physics he/she uses while punching the opponent. While punching someone the basic concept of physics is applied. This is the potential energy converting into kinetic energy. We all have learned this in 6th grade and we all must know this concept very well. But the only thing most of us don’t do is apply the concept in a real life situation. This is the time for you to apply some of the concepts you learned before in a real life situation. Kinetic energy is calculated by using the formula - Kinetic Energy = (1/2)mv^2

Energy may be either potential or kinetic. Potential energy (PE) is energy stored and ready for use. A car stopped at the top of a hill and a water balloon dangling out of an upstairs window have potential energy. Potential energy is measured by the amount of work the object can perform. The other form of energy is kinetic energy (KE). Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. A car rolling downhill and a water balloon falling towards its target have kinetic energy. Because of its greater mass, a falling car has more kinetic energy than a falling water balloon. Similarly, because of its greater velocity, as water balloon that is thrown down will have more kinetic energy than one that is simply dropped from the same height. As these examples show, potential energy can become kinetic energy. Kinetic energy can also be transferred from one object to another: imagine a car or the water balloon striking a ping pong ball and sending it flying. Recall also that kinetic energy comes in six forms - chemical, electrical, radiant, mechanical, nuclear, and thermal- and that each of these forms can be converted into any of the other forms. For example, a battery converts chemical energy into electricity, and a light bulb converts electricity into light and heat.…

The more mass an object has the faster it moves the kinetic energy it has. Kinetic energy can also be transferred from one body to another in a collision, which can be elastic or inelastic. One example of an elastic collision would be one billiard ball striking another. Ignoring the friction between the balls and the table or any spin imparted to the cue ball, ideally the total kinetic energy of the two balls after the collision is equal to the kinetic energy of the cue ball before the collision. An example of kinetic energy is while we go to sleep our body is at rest, our heart…

Most of my life has been about softball because of my passion for the sport and it is very fun. Although as players get older how fast girls can run, how many errors a girl makes, and her batting average really starts to matter. With that in mind I decided I wanted to improve my game, specifically my swing. When I first started my high school softball career is when a technique called Power Hitting was introduced to me. My coach, Mark Ingle coaches a Gold team in Olathe called Peppers. He is a wonderful, understandable, and funny kind of coach. This technique that he taught me is sure fire I believe because he started it with his own daughter, Marissa Ingle who has played for KU since her freshman year with the leading batting average. I’m sure as readers the question that comes to mind is what exactly is Power Hitting? Power hitting is the use of all muscle the batter has and how fast the batter is able to trigger that muscle…

In 2012, The International Boxing Association (AIBA) announced the removal of head gear. Boxing is a contact sport and contact sports have recently been the topic in the media when they talk about sports. (19) Resulting in many recent studies done based on the fears of brain injury. The movie starring Will Smith, "Concussion" in 2015 dealt with the brain damage and concussions in football. You expect a sport in which the objective is to strike the head and body of your opponent would not safer than football and soccer. But professional boxing is rated 4th in highest recorded brain injuries and concussions when ranked against other contact sports. I say "contact sports" but third on the list is race car drivers. The list from most to least recorded brain injuries goes; American football, soccer, auto racing, boxing, rugby, wrestling and then amateur boxing. (21)…

My first year of wrestling was in high school my junior year. I wrestled at Forbush High School in the 106/113 pound weight class throughout this winter sport. Before, I must admit that I did at many different times think that the sport of wrestling was the most dumb and homosexual sport ever. One of my friends came up to me a few months after and asked me what I thought about wrestling. I told him like I said to everyone else, “It’s the most homosexual sport ever created.” He said, “When you’re out there wrestling, you don’t think about it. I challenge you to come out this year and wrestle and tell me if you think about anything being homosexual out there.” I accepted his challenge. My first day of wrestling practice was pretty great; I got to learn some new moves. Shortly after a month had went by, we had our first match. I was the first one up. We shook hands and the referee blew the whistle; it was on then. He took the first shot. I sprawled. I snapped around him to put a half on him to break him down. After I broke him down, I maneuvered a cross face cradle on him to put him into a pinning position. I held it as tightly as I could, and shortly after, the referee’s hands slapped the mat to signal that the match was over. We went back and shook hands again and right then I realized that I had won my match when the referee raised my hand. It was the most incredible feeling in my life to win my first match in 38 seconds. I told myself that I was sticking with it; I wasn’t going to give up on this sport. Did I think about how homosexual it was? No, I went out there and did the best I could. My friend was right, you don’t think about those kinds of things when you’re wrestling. Most people tell me each and every day that wrestling isn’t a hard sport or that it’s a homosexual sport. Famous wrestlers are known to this very day for the history they’ve created and made throughout wrestling in their high school or college days.…
