The present study reveals the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of extracts of Laptedenia pyrotechnica (Asclepiadaceae). Phytochemical study was done by GC-MS and antibacterial and antifungal activity was subjected against clinically four bacterial strains and two fungal strains using agar well diffusion method and test tube dilution method respectively. The GC-MS study revealed the presence of ten compounds in n-hexane extract namely Hexadecane(1), 2-[4a, 8-Dimethyl-3,4,4a,5,6-hexahydro-napthalene-2-yl]-prop-2-en-1-ol(2), Heptadecane(3), Benzene, [1-butylheptyl]-(4), Benzene, [1-methyldecyl]-(5), Oxirane, tetradecyl-(6), Hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester(7), Hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester(8), 9,12,15- Octadecatrienoic acid, ethyl ester, [Z,Z,Z]-(9), Lupeol (11) . The ethanolic extract of the aerial parts showed the most promising activity among selected four solvents against clinically isolated pathogenic bacterial strains. The Ethanol:water extract showed more antifungal activity against Fusarium moniliforme and Helmintosporium sativum.

Oregano is a traditional herb that is known for its natural immune support. Its oil contains carvacrol, a monoterpene phenol that serves as its primary germ-killing ingredient, and it provides many of the health benefits of the oregano. It also contains thymol, a powerful substance which is also a monoterpene phenol and is a natural fungicide with antiseptic properties. Esters are also strong antifungal agents, and two of these are abundant in oregano oil, namely linalyl acetate and geranyl acetate. Together, these substances make oregano oil a great natural alternative to treat infections. These substances also made the researchers see the potential of oregano oil as a possible…

New tissue will try to replace the scarred tissue which causes the tissue in the lung to become thick and stiff. The tissue in the lung makes it harder for oxygen to go through the walls of the air sac (http://www.lung). To provide evidence that Trigonella foenum-graecum possesses anti-inflammatory property, Chemico-Biological Interactions conducted a research. The experiment involved using glycosides based standardized fenugreek seed extract (SFSE-G) and evaluate the interaction with bleomycin (BLM) in laboratory rats. Each rat group was induced to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis by a single injection, followed by either SFSE-G in different quantities (5, 10, 20, or 40 milligrams per kilogram), or methylprednisolone (10 milligrams per kilogram) and then observed after 14 and 28 days of the drug treatment. The results of this experiment were that glycosides based standardized fenugreek seed extract (SFSE-G) administered in 20 and 40 milligrams per kilograms both showed the prevention of bleomycin alterations in body weight, lung function, and others. There was an increase in peripheral blood oxygen after glycosides based standardized fenugreek seed extract was used. Not only that but there was a reduction in lung 5-HT level by this treatment. Apoptosis, or the death of a cell controlled to the growth and development of a system were significant. All of these results provide evidence to suggest that…

For a long period of time, plants have been a valuable source of natural products for maintaining human health. It has shown some gradual increase in pharmaceutical purposes in Brazil. According to World Health Organization medicinal plants would be the best source to obtain a variety of drugs. About 80% of individuals from developed countries use traditional medicine, which has compounds derived from medicinal plants. Therefore such plants should be investigated to better understand their properties, safety and efficiency. In the last few years, studies have been conducted in different countries to prove the efficiency of plants in having its own antimicrobial properties. Many plants have been used because of their antimicrobial traits, which are due to compounds synthesized in the secondary metabolism of the plants. These products are known by their active substances, for example, the phenolic compounds which are part of the essential oils, as well as in tannin.…

BCBT: As it can be seen in table 2, E. platyloba EO had a strong activity in maintenance of β-carotene molecules especially in C10 (78.25%), which was higher than ascorbic acid and comparable with BHT. The same concentration of ascorbic acid and BHT were used as standard to compare the values. FRAP: The antioxidant efficiency of the E. platyloba EO using FRAP method was calculated with reference to the reaction formula , given by a Fe+2 solution of known concentration. The same concentration of ascorbic acid and BHT were used as comparison. As it shown in table 3 the oil was stronger than standards to reduce the Fe+3 to Fe+2. ABTS: Table 4 lists the results of ABTS test of E. platyloba DC EO. The ABTS radical scavenging of the oil was dose dependent and increased with increment of the E. platyloba EO concentration. The same concentration of ascorbic acid and BHT were used as comparison.…

The plants which are used to cure diseases are called medicinal plants. This property of plants is due to the presence of certain chemicals namely Phytochemicals which include alkaloids, Glycosides, flavanoids, volatile oils, vitamins, resins, gums etc. These chemicals terminate the growth of micro organisms by obstructing one or many metabolic activities of microbes. World Health Organisation has estimated that perhaps 80 % of the Earth’s inhabitants rely upon traditional medicine for their primary health care needs and a major part of this therapy involves the use of plant extracts or their active principles. Plants form the major resource in the preparation of drugs in many ancient systems of medicine like Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy, Naturopathy, Siddha and Allopathy. Our present work mainly aims at the screening of Bioactive compounds present in wood and fruit of Terminalia pallida Brandis…
