In Velazquez’s artwork, he was portraying the attendants doing hard work for the little princess. There were many more attendants in the painting than anyone else. Also he uses realism to show the real life of royalty and their workers. This painting was meant to be more of a realistic picture than a made up painting with bright colors. Lastly, Velazquez wanted this painting to show him in the background with all of the attendants and the princess.

First, they were both made by famous artists. One by Velazquez and the other was painted by Picasso. When the two artists painted them they both decided to name them Las Meninas after the attendants there were. The princess is a key person because she is in both paintings. Also the backgrounds are both fairly dark. Lastly, they are obviously both paintings. Some of the differences are Picasso’s uses bright colors and cubism while Velazquez’s painting is focused on realism. If you look close in Velazquez’s painting there are small details such as a dog, Velazquez, and a mirror with the attendants in it. In Picasso’s version of Las Meninas there are many less details with only a princess and an attendant. Another difference is the setting in Velazquez’s painting is a large room while Picasso’s is a more mysterious black background. Finally, Picasso’s was very unrealistic.
