It will tell you if your car’s engine is thirsty for oil. Having an oil level that is either too high or too low can be detrimental to your engine. How do you go about it? To check the level of oil, park your car on level ground and let the engine cool down. Why do you need to let the engine cool down? To avoid erroneous reading. When the engine is still hot there is an approximately half a liter of oil trapped in the passages of the engine, it takes a while to drain back to the crankcase. After the engine has cool down, search for the dipstick. Pull it out, then wipe it clean before pushing it all the way back in. After a minute, pull it out again, and check the oil level. The ideal oil level should read between the high and the low marks denoted by dots. If it’s too low then add some oil, but make sure not to overfill it or else you will end stressing the engine causing it to leak.
