Pill Bugs
I aroused with a thumping headache, hoping my situation was just a deplorable dream. I was out of fortuity; I was stuck in the middle of the forest with Maple, the trail horse. I took a deep breath, stood up and held my phone to the empyrean. No bars, how typical I mentally conceived. I ambulated around in circles for a couple of minutes endeavoring to cerebrate of an orchestration. I took a visual examination of Maple eating wild grass, all of the sudden I decided that I was going to make the best of things, after all this was my vacation. I was about to leave Maple but I didn't have the heart. I additionally didn't optate to leave the spot but it was getting tardy and there were all sorts of wild creatures. So I got on Maple and galloped off probing for a designation of civilization. After twenty minutes I commenced to get hopeless until I visually perceived the ocean. I commenced to get exhilarated and commenced heading in the direction of the beach. Albeit there was no civilization I was ecstatic not to be stuck in the middle of the Forest. I realized it was already dark and I should probably set up camp. To commence I made a fire, made a shelter out of sticks and leaves and tied Maple to a tree. Soon it was day and my peregrination was just beginning. I recalled what I promised myself. That I was going to have fun so I decided to stay a couple hours on the beach. As I took a look in the ocean I visually perceived the glistening clear blue dihydrogen monoxide ripple as the tides went in and out. I look an even more proximate and I visually perceived little ebony fish swimming in circles and the most exquisite accumulation of seashells, I have ever optically discerned. As I prehended a couple of seashells to take as a souvenir I optically discerned a breathtaking visual perception, the infrequent Fraser dolphins jumping In and out of dihydrogen monoxide. Albeit it wasn't that far away sharks are kenned to roam near beaches. All of a sudden I auricularly

Pill Bugs Attraction to Colored Lights Introduction: This experiment was conducted to see which colored light pill bugs would prefer more out of red, blue, yellow, and green lights. If pill bugs went to the green and yellow lights more than the blue and red lights, then this means they like brighter lights more than gloomier lights. For the experimental group, the colors used were blue, red, yellow, and green. The controlled group was the middle chamber. It got regular light from the classroom. The independent variable was four different colors of the lights. The dependent variable was the light they chose to go to. After three trials that lasted ten minutes each, we recorded all the information down in a table.…

For this project I had observed the coolest bug balls on earth, the roly- poly. They are commonly known as the roly-poly, also pill bug, and wood lice. Its scientific name is Armadilidum vulgare. It is actually not an insect, it is an isopod ( a type of arthropod). It’s genus is Armadilidum, it’s Phylum is Arthopoda, and Subphylum is Crustacea. I have observed that the exoskeleton is a blue-gray, it is an invertebrate, it’s mouth, antennae and eyes are located on it’s head, and it rolls into a perfect sphere as defense when being disturbed or threatened. It has 2 pairs of antennae (one barely visible), it has 2 eyes, it has 7 pairs of jointed legs, and it’s about 3/8 inches long.…

This lab felt very “slow” because there was not a lot of action going on. The pill bugs would either walk around in circles or stay put. However, it was both fun and annoying when my group tried to put the pill bugs in the chamber and take them out. We had to put a lot of effort to get the pill bugs on to the paint brushes because they would scurry around and it would take a while to find them. Also, it was cool to see the pill bugs use their defense mechanism (it only happened once) by going into a hard circular shape when being prodded at by a paintbrush. This lab had a lot of experimental areas. The amount of water or basic or acidic solution to the paper may have affected results. For the first part of the lab, outside factors could have…

Pill bugs are said to have some sort of turn alternation built in there cognitive functions, which causes them to take a zig-zag route rather than going along in a straight line for a long distance (Ono Tomohiro & Takagi Yuika, 2006). Distance does not play a factor in the pill bugs making turn alternation even if it is a forced turn, pill bugs will still make a zig-zag motion (Kupfermann, 1966). The zig-zag motion shows that pill bugs don’t have the ability to make two consecutive right turns.…

There are many interesting facts about the pill bug. The pill bug is also known as sowbugs, woodlice, or by their scientific name Armadillidiidae vulgare . Some of their physical characteristics include a hard black, brown, or gray shell (depending on the species being studied), sharply angled antennae, seven pairs of legs, flattened or round-backed profile and an oval shape. Their head has 4 pairs of mouthparts and is followed by the 7 main trunk segments, which bear the walking limbs. Pill bugs only grow from 0.2 inches up to 0.6 inches. They are part of the class Crustacea and are related to lobsters, crabs, shrimp, and daphnia (water fleas). Crustaceans are also part of a larger group, Arthropoda (jointed-legged animals). All arthropods have a trunk divided into segments, a tough outer cuticle, and limbs that are flexible joints.…

This experiment was conducted to learn how regular behavior of a pillbug is affected in the presence of a substance such as hydrochloric acid. Behavior of the pill bugs was first monitored and recorded to discern how the species acts under normal conditions. The behavior was then observed and documented after the pill bugs were placed in a choice chamber with HCl and water. There was no change in activity after these substances were placed with the pill bugs. From this experiment, we can conclude not only that pill bug behavior goes unchanged in the presence of water, but also that the behavior stays consistent in the presence of hydrochloric acid. However, the HCl in this experiment was diluted to a pH of 2, and we have yet to test differing dependent factors on these pill bugs.…

Pill bugs live in an outside environment where they are able to get the necessary amount of energy from organic matter. This environment is where water and organic matter is plentiful. In there natural habitat, pill bugs are found in dark, damp places. Living in moist places is important for pill bugs so they can take in enough water, and if water is not available, they group together to prevent water loss. Pill bugs most often live in dark places because they have a negative photo taxis. Darker places also tend to be cooler and damper. Each experiment connected to how the pill bugs would behave in a certain environment. We were able to test these experiments in a laboratory way to see if the natural environments were also true. If pill bugs are given a light and dark environment, then they will prefer the dark environment. If pill bugs were put in a warm or cold environment, they will prefer the cooler temperature. If pill bugs were in a dry or moist are, they would flock to the moist are. In the last experiment we tested to see if they preferred shelter or unsheltered environments, for which they choose unsheltered. After doing all four experiments, it was clear that pill bugs have a concise behavioral pattern in each environment.…

There were some salmon, but if I put them in my knapsack, it will turn bad. I got back to the shelter to grab my knapsack and decided to search for the second shelter, I went along the river, which led me downhill. It was a forest with huge trees, filled with life, but there are still salmon in the river, so I chose that instead. I broke off a branch and stabbed some salmon, I got two, which was plenty. I started a fire near the river to just cook the fish, I didn’t do it near the trees because they might catch fire. There wasn’t a place to take shelter, so I stayed up a tree the whole night, that is a typical…

The sun shone vibrantly through the trees and I loved the way it complemented the gold leaves. I started to notice the incline to the top of the hill, it was steady unlike the Adirondacks where you go up and down. When I got to the top I saw a spectacular view of the surrounding neighborhoods and way in the distance I saw the buildings of Rochester. As I stood there I admired the pure beauty that lies so close to home. It is hard to believe that a wilderness like this one could be surrounded by suburban neighborhoods. Being higher up and in an open space I could really appreciate the mixture of golds, oranges and yellows it was different than being on regular ground level. I thought to myself ‘’I should do this more often, it’s peaceful and healthy.’’ I felt a certain peace with in me while I’m in the woods, suddenly my phone vibration broke my train of thought. It was my stepmom texting me to see if everything was okay, I replied yes and I’d be back at the trailhead in a short time. The leaves snapped and cracked under my feet on the way back and the crisp fall air made the not yet fallen leaves dance in the trees, it was getting later in the day. I was three quarters through the loop so I was still fine,I wasn’t…

I woke up hazed with blurred vision. The right side of my face was dried and burned. The left side of my face was soaked in salt water and blood. I was freaked out and picked up my head and blinked rapidly. I saw nothing but blue for miles and miles, the sky and the water. When I looked down I saw nothing but a small black and orange rubber dingy. I tried to think about what had happened. It was then when I realized I couldn't even remember my own name. Then panic just settled in for some reason I jumped in the water freaking out. I came to my senses and quickly started using all my strength to hurdle myself in the dingy.…

We had an early night. Mosquitoes and eerie sounds made by the nocturnal creatures of the jungle kept us awake for most of the night. I had almost made up my mind to give up. At first break of daylight, we were up. We ate the food we had brought and set off for Kampung Melur. Our walk slowed down to a snail’s pace as we had to make our way cross muddy paddy fields. As it began to get dark, we frantically searched for a site to set up camp. Suddenly, we saw the flicker of kerosene lamps in the distance.…

A slight breeze blew throughout the dandy forest, swaying the stiff lifeless trees and blowing the black stained leaves across my bare white feet. As I stumbled across the dead landscape, a slight fog swam around blending in with the increasingly falling snow. Hundreds of dark wood surrounding me seemed to slowly cave in, creating a narrow cave-like passage. An eerie feeling swept over me, and I stopped completely, analysing every detail around me. The smog became thicker, blinding the scenery and almost completely covering my vision. I sensed an inhuman presence watching me, and flinched whenever a snapping sound came from a faraway distance. I slowly turned around and began pacing in the direction I came from. The fog smothered me but I kept running,…

The Worst Day of My Life

    • 377 Words

It was Friday the 15th. I got up early and there was a sun shining outside my window. I cut school. I thought the best thing to do is to go to the river with my friends. When I was going outside I saw a black cat crossing my path. I've already known that this day isn't going to be one of the bests in my life. Later it turned out that my worst fears were realized. I bought a bus ticket. When I got to the bus stop and I understood that I'm late, it really put me out of humour. Me and my friend decided to go on foot. It was a really hot day. After we had arrived to the river, I saw that I forgot my swimming trunks. Even though there's heat, water was cold and it's impossible to swim there without trunks so I decided to sit in the shade. I didn't feel to play football or voleyball. There's a place where we can rent a canoe or kayak near the river. I heard that there's cheap. And it really is! It's only 4$ per hour. I didn't think long and 5 minutes later I decided to boat down the river. But unfortunately bad luck was chasing me. After I had boated about 100 feets, the sun set, it starded raining. I knew I had to go back but boating upstream was really taft. I reached the land and I was walking alongshore having my canoe on tow. I had had (?) enough of it! In a minute I was failing (loosing power, is 'failing' correct?). Rain was even bigger than a few moments later. When I reached the harbour I was tired out and drenched to the skin. In a hurry I gave back a canoe. There's no-one near the river, even my friend hid somewhere. I didn't care about it. I started to comming back to home. I wasn't cold no longer. When I came to home, my mom greeted me. She was happy I finally got home. And I was happy beacause it was all over. It was definitelly the worst day in my…
