Yoga eggs can be a great tool for newbie and experienced yogis. I love using blocks though as the yoga egg slogan says "Because your body's not square!"they contour to your body seamlessly. They're very versatile and can be used during any style of class. If you don't love the idea of calling them eggs I suggest calling them petals.
w to use a yoga egg in active poses
In active poses such as upward or downward facing dog (as shown above) yoga eggs can be used to alleviate any pain in the wrists and to keep the legs engaged. With an egg on either side of you step, hop, or walk back into plank pose, lowering yourself down and pushing yourself up into upward facing dog. To protect your wrists in this pose lean towards the front of the eggs. Then pushing down and back into downward dog keep your hands here to relieve the wrists or walk palms in front of the egg, resting forearms on the egg to stabalize your shoulders. If your hands don't meet in binds you can use the egg to "connect" here. Over time your flexibility will improve and you will no longer need the assistance of the egg. How to use a yoga egg in restorative poses
In reclining cobbler's pose you can use the yoga eggs under the thighs, head, and thoracic spine.
These placements enhance the feeling of being fully supported which allows the legs to soften into this pose while keeping the spine in proper alignment. Begin in a seated position, soles of the feet together, place an egg under each leg, allowing your knees to open up to the floor. Next place an egg down the middle of your mat behind you, slowly roll the spine down over the egg, it may take some adjustment to find the right spot to allow your thoracic spine to be fully supported. Finally place an egg under the head in a position to slightly tuck the chin below the level of your forehead, placing the egg on its side allows you to gently rock your head side to side to release any tension in the neck. Relax your shoulders down, arms resting getnly by your
sides.
There are endless possibilities with these eggs. What do you use them for? Let me know in the comments below.
