Pita Pit Shreveport opened their doors on to the public on Monday, October 26 with a weeklong celebration of giving back 10 percent of their proceeds to local non-profit organizations including The Muscular Dystrophy Association, Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission, The Warrior Network, Providence House and Common Ground Community.
The Shreveport franchise of Pita Pit is owned by local business owners Matt and Alicia Smith and Patty and David Smith. Dinner one night with their daughter is what led Patty and David Smith to the Pita Pit family.
“My sister in law’s husband is in the military. They moved to Sumter, SC and my in laws went up there to kind …show more content…
of help them move into their new place. Kelly said ‘I want to take y’all to my new favorite restaurant here. The kids love it. They want to eat here more than any place else” and it was Pita Pit. So they went and ate there and my in laws went with them and they just loved it and thought that Shreveport definitely needed one” said Alicia Smith.
Patty and David Smith brought the idea of being Pita Pit franchise owners back to their son Matt and his wife Alicia.
Both of the couples have previous business experience with jointly owning Southland Storage in Baton Rouge and with Patty and David owning Homesecure Construction here in Shreveport. According to Alicia Smith, that experience combined with her knowledge and education from being a dietician created the perfect reason to own a Pita Pit.
“We’ve always been keeping our eye out for different things. They came back and told us about Pita Pit. I am a dietician that worked at Willis Knighton for 11 years doing diabetes education so they really thought I would agree since it is a healthier alternative to fast food. I thought that we really needed one for Shreveport-Bossier because with all of my patients, if they want something quick, they go to a burger place. It’s just something different than a sub” she said.
As the name says, Pita Pit Shreveport offers customizable pitas. Customers can select directly from the menu of pita creations or create their own in countless ways. Proteins are the base including chicken, turkey, ham, beef and lamb but there are vegetarian options including hummus, falafel and
vegetables.
"They select their protein and where the true customization comes in is with the veggies and sauces. At our training it was said our pitas can be made a billion ways. We have one customer that comes in almost daily and he orders the same protein with different veggies and he says it tastes different each time" said Alicia Smith.
After selected, the protein option is cooked on a flat top grill with veggies and sauce if preferred, assembled in a pita pocket then rolled like a wrap. Smith said this makes for convenience and ease of eating. Any pita can also be made into a salad.
Pita Pit Shreveport also serves breakfast pita options all day long, is available for catering.
