Plagiarizing Definition
In this article about plagiarism, paraphrasing, and summarizing, the basis is to understand why it’s important to know about all three. Plagiarism is a big problem that students have. Whether it’s intentional or not, it happens to the best of us. The best way to avoid plagiarizing a paper is to summarize what you have learned in your own words. It’s as if you are teaching someone who doesn’t know what you’re talking about. Making it as simple as possible is the key. This is where paraphrasing comes in. Although summarizing seems easy, you will need to paraphrase some things you have read. Paraphrasing helps build on what you have said in your paragraphs with more solid information. Plagiarizing happens when students forget to cite, or put quotation

According to Lowe & Dougherty (2014), intentional plagiarism typically stems from fear of failure, poor planning/time management skills, or viewing the course material and the consequences of cheating as unimportant. Unintentional plagiarism is usually caused by a lack of understanding the use of proper citations when attempting to integrate ideas. The best way to avoid plagiarism is to learn the appropriate use of citations and the proper format for references. Understanding the difference between using someone else’s words in a direct quote and paraphrasing is important, as each method requires the information to be cited differently. Aside from learning the appropriate use of citations and references, it is necessary to understand the importance of course materials and the seriousness of the consequences for cheating. Learning proper time management skills will also help students to remain vigilant when citing sources used to support the information being…

Here is an example of plagiarism, in which the student intention was to perhaps paraphrase. “Biomedical researchers incorporate strict rules of science into their work, which is examined by peers. Yet the resulting information can be warped for five seasons: ending a study too soon, not publishing negative results, publishing results too early, skimming over or ignoring drawbacks, and “buffing”. In the original passage the writing is more thorough and in depth. The student basically paraphrased the entire passage by using very little words of their own and only deleting a minimal of a few words that came from the original source, and…

The first step is using quotations when using another person’s words in your own work, people can use another person’s words as much as they want, but if they don’t give the other person credit, it’s plagiarism. Another step in avoiding plagiarism is citing sources. Any time you’re writing an article it is important to cite any sources you gathered ideas or information from. A lot of people don’t realize another key issue, even if you didn’t directly quote someone, but used their ideas or paraphrased their words, a citation is still…

Now that a working knowledge of what plagiarism entails has been established, the reasons for why the act is committed can be explored. Students commit plagiarism intentionally and unintentionally for many reasons. Examples of reasons students intentionally plagiarize include: “searching vs. researching, but their words are better, making the grade, everyone else is doing it, and poor planning.”(“What is plagiarism,” 2012) Students often find the task of completing a research paper too overwhelming and find it easier and more convenient to look for data on the Internet and change it to fit their needs. Students can often fear that the quality of their work…

Plagiarism is getting credit for work that was done by someone else. It is simply not giving the original author credit for their piece of work. Students plagiarize for many different reasons. Some of those reasons include but are not limited to laziness, lack of knowledge, and lack of time. Some students just don’t like to write and would rather get someone to write the paper for them or purchase a paper. There are many cases where the individual does not know the proper way of siting their sources. Last minute writing prevents the individual from having time to proof their paper for errors, which also leads to plagiarism. Waiting until the last minute…

Course goal two states, “incorporate texts into essays as meaningful support, making strategic use of summary, paraphrase, and quotation” (Villarreal). This course goal gave me a vivid point of view on how to take a complete reading and summarize it to one or several paragraph. One example is the article I used in essay three “Negotiating Identity” by Monileak Ourng. This article compacted more than one claim causing several main idea to be established. From understanding course goal two, I was able to paraphrase the article making it much easier to draw out the main idea. From paraphrasing the article, I was able to covert the whole reading into several paragraph without plagiarism In my essay, I stated, “Ourng’s purpose of writing this essay is to show how linguistic heritage has an effect on second generation immigrants identity” (“The Relationship Between Language and Identity” 2). I was able to use my own interpretation to give the readers a good understanding of the article and the main idea.…
