An outsider's view upon how education has transformed people’s attitudes towards education is valuable when discussing how culture affects attitudes towards education. Paul Samuelson, the author of Why I Teach Plato to Plumbers and a professor of humanities, has noticed an interesting trend in humanity based on his students. When teaching lower socioeconomic status people with the culture that says education is is a way to “rise up the ranks”, those people became very wealthy and social such as becoming a law student at a very prestigious university. Those who tend to be in this university are usually rich but this student rose based on education. A generalized example of how views on education is affected by culture based on many stories is also essential to describe culture’s effect on education. Villagers in India, who tend to have a lower socioeconomic status, move to the city to live successfully because of the emphasis the Indian culture has on education. Because education has helped these villagers move “up the ranks”, they will emphasis it to others, demonstrating their positive attitudes towards education. If education creates problem for lower socioeconomic peoples, those people will view education negatively. If education creates opportunities to move up socioeconomic class, people will view education positively. Therefore, it can be deducted that one’s socioeconomic culture direct one’s life.
