I believe that every one thinking about joining the military should definitely consider watching the film Platoon for multiple reasons. The first reason is that at the beginning of the movie Taylor walks by body bags and they say “is that what I think it is” that shows him how real of a situation he is in. A life or death situation. The movie also shows characters having major psychological problems when going through and after the war. The soldiers thought it was okay that they were going to rape a female. Their minds were screwed up from the war to tell them whats right and wrong. Another realization of the movie is when the Junior was supposed to keep watch and Taylor woke up noticing the enemy getting closer and this just shows how you

    In the movie Sergeant York my group and I decided to do the scene in which Alvin York gets struck by lightning. In my opinion is the turning point of the character, because Alvin is known as the “bad boy” in town. He does not have very much respect, and this scene is completely life changing to the character. The scene first starts off Alvin riding his horse in a very bad thunderstorm. The sound is a non-diegetic orchestra that is playing immensely loud. The orchestra music builds a lot of tension because while its playing there is lighting striking. The music perfectly captures the audience attention because viewers will be sucked in thinking that Alvin York is gonna die or get struck by lighting because the music is emphasized with its weird medallic tune that creates the eerie feeling of “whats going to happen”. Coincidentally Alvin ends up getting struck by lighting. Almost immediately after he gets struck by lightning, the orchestra music is switched to the background with a different tone. Initially the tone of Alvin riding his horse during the storm was very unpleasant and suspenseful but the aftermath of being hit by the lightning changed it from being a dark atmosphere to a light.     During the first part of the film, it was the training of the drafted soldiers. I did not have any idea how brainwashed a soldier got after training. In the movie, Sergeant Hartman was very rude and insulted the soldiers most of the time, if not all the time. He would give mean nicknames to all soldiers, making fun of them. Nobody dared to talk back to him or answer him in any other manner than what he ordered. The soldiers got pushed to their limit, perfecting every movement, and always trying to be the best. The crazy soldier, Pyle, was the only one that struggled and could not seem to get the grip of the training like all the other soldiers. When Sergeant Hartman found the donut that Pyle had hid, he punished all the other soldiers for what he did and made Pyle eat the donut while the soldiers did pushups. Later on, the soldiers got revenge and attacked Pyle during the night. I began to feel really bad for Pyle by that point. Not only could Pyle not succeed throughout his training, he was also getting punished by his fellow companions and the sergeant.
