I want to know why it is so bad to return to the dark or just stay in the dark. Why is the light something that everyone should want? Why should people be judged for living in the cave instead of going outside? Same thing for people who judge those for wanting to find something more and …show more content…
wanting to go outside as illustrated by, “grab hold of anyone who tried to set them free and take them up there, and kill him.” These people can’t even begin to fathom what this person is saying and as a result try to kill this person. This can also happen if the person tried to drag people into the unfamiliar darkness. I used to believe that chinese people had to follow buddhism. However, my chinese friend was christian and I never understood that. Now after trying to understand different people from different heritages I can grasp what I didn’t back then. Therefore, it doesn’t matter where you are, it only matters that you are willing to recognize another person’s perspectives and beliefs. Chances are that you won’t ever fully understand someone else’s perspective. You didn’t go through what they did and they didn’t go through what you did. It is selfish to expect someone to understand your entire being.
People aren’t blinded by the light or the darkness.
People put these blindfolds on themselves as a way to protect themselves from what is foreign, from what is different. They refuse to even try to begin to understand as their natural instinct is fear. Therefore, I find The Allegory of the Cave flawed. At first I didn’t understand why I couldn’t situate myself in the cave. When I was a child, I would close my eyes and cover my ears whenever I was scolded. Constantly running away from my mother and refusing to understand her. Now I listen to her and watch her movements to understand her point of view and further understand my own. Therefore creating a harmonious relationship that I can cherish properly. After some thought, I believe that it is because people aren’t blinded by the light or darkness. They instinctively cover or squint their eyes to protect themselves, rendering them unable to understand what they are seeing at a deeper level. This is why I believe that the Allegory of the Cave is
flawed.
