The literacy curriculum is for pupils to explore and expand on how language works and to gain knowledge of various genres and situations. The Primary Framework for Literacy is to support and increase all children’s access to excellent teaching, leading to exciting and successful learning. I am currently working in KS2 (year 4). My teacher will set the lesson for each day in accordance with the National Curriculum. The lesson is broken down and put on to a daily lesson plan. Prior to the lesson she will go over the plan in more detail with me and give me ample time to prepare any resources required. For the lesson, the class are divided on to tables so that children of the same ability are placed together. I am usually put with the lower able children as they are in need of the extra support. I work as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school Key stage 2 Year 3 of the National Curriculum. A typical literacy lesson is delivered by firstly, by the class teacher talking and explaining to the pupils the chosen literacy subject. Group discussions or whole class participation, sharing thoughts and ideas. Then focusing on the learning objective in either talk partners, groups or as individuals. Pupils with communication difficulties, special educational needs or have English as a second language, are supported in small groups or on a one-to-one basis. When I had first volunteered at a preparatory school as a teacher’s assistant, I was thrilled and excited. I enjoyed working with children and I admit, was slightly disillusioned with expectations that the children would be dutiful and effortless to watch over. Unfortunately, all my prior imaginations crashed the second I entered the classroom. Everywhere I saw, it was pure chaos. My role as a tutor has many responsibilities relating to ensuring equality and diversity with all my students. I will always make sure I make no differences with anyone relating to sex, age or disability to name a couple. I have already experienced differences with learning abilities and preferred teaching strategies with different students. I begin my class by telling them what the subject will be on that evening followed by a group discussion to find out there preffered learning methods. Some subjects require a power-point presentation followed up with group discussions, others are individual or group tasks set, then evaluated together. On September 13th, 2016 at 2:00 pm I participated in a PPT meeting for my second grader, Matthew Ellis. I was excited for him to begin a new year of school within the Marlborough school district. However, upon arrival to the PPT meeting, the special education director, Mrs. Plack was late due to grabbing the wrong folder. In addition to being late and unprepared, this meeting became extremely uncomfortable for me after Mrs. Plack asked several inappropriate questions such as is Matthew on medication for his ADHD or does Matthew have father issues rather than a learning disability. Looking back on the course as a whole, I have learned how to effectively analyze my audience and distinguish and adapt my writing for that audience. I learned different ways to make technical documents look appealing to readers while also using graphics ad white space to effectively show the words of the documents. I learned how to work better in a team setting as well as improved my individual writing. My sentence structure and effectiveness has definitely improved over the semester as well. My thoughts about technical writing and technical documents wasn't changed much except for how much thought needs to be put into who the audience is and how to write specifically to that audience. Learning how to write memos effectively and just the general format for them will help me in the workplace. The help I received on my resume and cover letter during the course will help me tremendously getting into the workplace.…
I thought it was interesting that you mentioned the contrast and difference in the way your middle school PE teacher perform, and how your high school PE teacher performed. Growing up, I always thought that the PE teachers had the easiest job in the school, simply because they were able to stand there with a whistle and a clip board (glorified babysitting, I suppose). However, my idea on PE, and the correctness in how to guide our students has completely changed; there is so much that we can do that can help develop our students in a positive way (and negative way).
