Short Essay on Topic Pneumatology: Spiritual Gifts
Spiritual Gifts are gifts that are given to believers by God that enable them to complete the jobs that He has called them to perform. Spiritual gifts differ from the Fruit of the Spirit in that everyone can possesses each Fruit of the Spirit but God gives Spiritual Gifts according to your service in the church and in the body of Christ. You need to possess specific Spiritual Gifts in order to operate in specific ministries. Spiritual Gifts reflect your maturity level in the things of Christ. As you grow in Christ your Spiritual Gifts can multiply or change. I believe that Spiritual Gifts are the talents that God grants to each of His children. Some of the Spiritual Gifts that I possess are the gift of teacher, the gift of helper, the gift of discernment, and the gifts of exhortation and intercession. I have found that the more that I grow as I study God’s Word, the Spiritual Gifts that He gave to me tend to expand and they often times overlap. I think that the reason we are given Spiritual Gifts is so that we will have the tools that we need when we are performing the tasks that we have been charged with in order to build and edify the Kingdom of God. In my opinion, we receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit once we have accepted Christ as our personal Savior. It is at this time when there is an identifiable change in our life. We no longer do the things that we used to do. Gradually we become less comfortable with living in and around sin so we seek to live a life like the life of Christ. Ewell says that some people insist that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit coincides with conversion. I believe this is true. According to Ewell and as scripturally referenced in I Corinthians 12-14 and Romans 12, Speaking in Tongues is a spiritual gift given to select people within

Spiritual Gifts are granted by the Holy Spirit as He wills. There are many gifts that are all granted by the same Spirit to benefit the body of Christ (1 Cor. 2:4, 7). However, when referring to either the Gifts or Fruits of the Spirit, consideration is needed to avoid confusing their meanings (Towns, p. 306). In addition, the gift of tongues and its relation to the baptism of the Spirit are highly debated upon. This essay will discuss biblical proofs and the questions surrounding these gifts, plus reveal the “perfect” reward in the end.…

For Christians and the church the Holy Spirit lives inside the Christian and guides the actions of those who desire His presence. The Spirit empowers the believer to step outside his comfort zone to do extraordinary acts of faith for God. Being filled with the Spirit involves transforming their minds to the mind of Christ as we engage in spiritual activities. Walking in the Spirit leads to a sense of peace and joy. Violating their conscience through acts of disobedience leads to a loss of filling by the Holy Spirit, which takes away their joy and peace. Although God will not take the Holy Spirit away from a disciple of Jesus Christ, the continual practice of sin and a lack of spiritual activities will lead to a life that is no different than the life of a…

Baptism is one example of how God wants his children to live by his example. It is apparent, as written by Frank C. Quinn, that we must “fully incorporate into the body of Christ through water and Spirit (Quinn 2). If further evidence is required to represent the importance of baptism, the entire New Testament can be used as a tool for research. Not more than three chapters into Matthew, the first book of the New Testament, John the Baptist baptizes Jesus in the Jordan. “Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him” (Matt. 3.13). One does not need to search hard to find any of the examples Jesus lays out for his foundation. The New Testament itself is a representation of the foundation Christ lays. Thus it is plain that in the New Testament the grace of the Spirit is fundamentally linked with the identity of Jesus Christ (Dragas 150). Questions arise in this matter as they do in any matter. Dragas addresses this issue saying, “but why is He Christ?” (150). He answers this question with scripture: “He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit” (John…

Is the baptism of the Holy Spirit as recorded in the book of Acts prescriptive? Meaning…is there always a second experience for someone who is baptized in the Holy Spirit apart from them receiving God’s gift of Salvation? Up to this point, I have believed that when we put our faith in Jesus, we get all of God—he holds nothing back. Yet the question becomes whether or not we tap into the Holy Spirit’s power. I liken it to a membership at the gym versus hiring a personal trainer at a gym. A personal trainer coaches you, trains you, helps (empowers) you achieve your goals (as a Christian the goal is to become more like Christ and advance his kingdom). So when you say “yes” to Jesus you get your membership and you are good for life—eternal life. Yet so many people never claim access to their personal trainer—the Holy…
