Poem Analysis: Bilingual Poet

When reading this poem, I found out how meaningful the narrator is with her father. Even though she only speak Spanish in front of the presence of her father, she still spoke English aside since her father made the English language sound unnecessary for him to hear from her. That was a symbolism of respect for her showing father of the boundaries on what type of language she speaks when she is around him. So that's why she said “My father likes them separate, one there, one here” because that's is how he want it to be. The poem in structured since she is bilingual, when the father hear her speaking English, it's unnatural for him to hear her speaking another language and tells her to speak that language outside and only speak Spanish inside.
The theme for this poem is that even though she is bilingual and the father is not used to it, she did it for the cause that is she is a writer and wants to be a poet, she needed to write a language that most people would understand her on what she is saying and see what is she trying to explain while writing her poetry for the people that reads her writing, can be spreaded because she learned English and if she didn't learn English, who knew if being a Spanish poet would of been either more or less successful than she is now. The voice is more of a desire type voice so that she can learn about English and she wanted their father to know that it would be very useful for her writing and for her poetry and realizing that she wants to be bilingual for that cause so she can speak both English and Spanish which divided her in two and she made it connect to one piece and she strives for the best of her ability to keep the two pieces together to satisfy herself and her
