In the poem “Hanging Fire” by Audre Lorde she displays identity and coming of age vividly through a fourteen year old. This teenager is rapidly searching for an identity within the consent and affection of others with an incredible fear of not making it. She is silently begging for the attention of her mother. No one is soothing the sensations that are consuming her, “what if I die before morning and momma’s in the bedroom with the door closed”. With no direction to kindle the motivation that is hardly there as it is, our character is waiting senselessly and fearfully to be knocked down by the wind of the physical and emotional insecurities she keeps close by.…
There is lots of good open relationships, but there are also bad ones due to our society supposedly. In Perry Patetic claim, he argues that bad relationships come from are fast moving society. The author supports his statement by first saying that you have a fast moving society equipped with cars, trains and planes. He continues by saying it would be easy to move, the author's purpose is to convince the audience to stay in the same location in order so that we can have a close, supportive relationship that people in former generations enjoyed. The author sets up a convincing tone for the audience.…
Upon reading the poem, imagery can be found throughout the entire poem. For example, in the first two lines you can imagine a doll being put away like a dead child in a chest, you cannot bring a dead child back to life. This is the burial of her childhood only to keep her memories and carry them with her for the rest of her life. Also, the second to last line where she is “wound,” twisted, “like the guts of a clock,” referring to her stomach. She feels a sense of anxiety here. This is her final emotion to conclude the poem. She fears growing up because of the responsibilities she will have to take on, the shame she felt when her period started, will…
The entire poem is written with a tone of sadness or depression. This evokes the senses of the reader by being able to sense how the girl is feeling and see how the words of others affect her. It can be pictured, this little girl who plays with the Barbie doll and it is just a toy, but to others it is the appearance that society wants and she soon realizes that when a fellow classmate hurts her with mean words. She can not go on with the fear that everyone sees her as imperfect or flawed, so in the end she gives up on trying and eventually gives up on herself. A simile in the poem, “Her good nature wore out/like a fan belt,” the message here is that she has given up on everything.…
The song "Roar" by McKee, Bonnie Leigh/ Martin Max/ Gottwald,Lucasz/Perry,Katy/ and Walter Henry shows the viewer a great amount of figurative language, imagery, Structure, tone, and theme. Through the course of time, large groups of people have been enslaved by superior cultures. The Jews, whipped to build the great pyramids for the Egyptians, slave men who were forced to fight and die as gladiators in the Roman coliseum, and the Africans who were sold by their own people to the Europeans, all had to endure the cruelties of slavery. The author and narrator, James Baldwin has a constant tone of anger toward the white society through out the book. After thoroughly reading this book, I have concluded that Baldwin’s message about race in America is that the only way the country as a whole will prosper is to come together as one. He realizes that having animosity toward the white…

In “Hanging Fire” The author shows how when you are in tough times don't give up and just keep going, even when you feel like there's nothing else. When you’re not getting much help from your family, keep going anyway. Nobody even stops to think about my side of it is a line from the poem that I thought connected to me. The reason I felt like it connected to me is because sometimes when I'm in an argument with someone, they don't feel like hearing my side of the story.…
. This song is about someone having to live up to the expectations someone else wants for them. They are pressured into having to be exactly like that person. They are nonstop always being smothered, and absolutely hate the fact that they cannot be who they want to be. They eventually get tired of listening to him/her and start living to their own expectations.…
The song " Just a Girl" by No Doubt shows the stereotypes, oppressions and standards that women are subjected to in our society. The author feels oppressed because she is "...just a girl" and because of that the author thinks that" ...I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite So don't let me have any rights". The oppression makes the author feel lesser than a man even though she is aware that she doesn't need a man she feels that "This world is forcing me to hold your hand" .The author's decision to include these lines also help show the stereotypes that women are all expected to be small and weak and always need a men to help them become something.…
Lorna Dee Cervantes' poem, “Poema para los Californios Muertos” (“Poem for the Dead Californios”), is a commentary on what happened to the original inhabitants of California when California was still Mexico, and an address to the speaker's dead ancestors. Utilizing a unique dynamic, consistently alternating between Spanish and English, Cervantes accurately represents the fear, hatred, and humility experienced by the “Californios” through rhythm, arrangement, tone, and most importantly, through use of language.…

With the use of numerous literary techniques, Pack is able to enhance the meaning of the poem: that we must depend on ourselves for answers because other opinions are just echoes of our own ideas.…
In the poem “Nighttime Fires” the speaker of the poem is remembering the speaker father’s wild obsession with burning houses at night and how the speaker had to go with the father to these burning houses with the family. The father is a casualty of the rough economy and this anger toward his bad luck is the reason he loves seeing these macabre scenes. The speaker in “Nighttime Fires” vividly illustrates the lasting impression that the fires and his father’s fascination with them, had on his childhood and the relationship with the father.…
Have you ever felt like you were born to do something? Since I was born I felt like I was born to play baseball, but after that I would love to be a broadcaster. That is why I have chosen to analyze “The Broadcaster’s Poem” by Alden Nowlan. Analyzing a poem is not an easy thing to accomplish for me. As I very rarely analyze anything I read, but you should try everything once.…
