Robinson Richard Cory In Situations much like Richard Cory's, we as outsiders don't know how they are and what they are truly going through. It's one of the scariest things, one day we see a person and the next we find out that they're gone. We hear things like: ‘Oh she/he was such a happy person, they had everything.' But what we fail to realize is that everything is nothing when a person isn't internally happy.
In a lot of ways, this poem reminds me of Jay Asher's novel 13 Reasons Why. Hannah Baker is a teenage girl who leaves behind seven tapes, front and back, listing a reason she decided to end her life. While Robinson, in Richard Cory, never gives us a reason as to why Richard Cory …show more content…

Richard Cory is described as a happy guy who ‘had everything,' but he didn't. It speaks to me because people say "pay attention to the signs." But some people are good at masking them, others being oblivious and just not knowing how to pick up on the signs. Saying "It'll get better," or "I understand what you're going through" is one of the worst things that can be said to someone who is struggling with depression or anything else for that matter, because that isn't what someone who is feeling down wants to hear. Because there is no way that we can completely relate or know exactly what they are going through.
No matter how hard we try to understand or how much we try to relate to someone who is going through something unspeakable we can't and we have to know that. All we can really do is try our best to be kind and respectful to them. As well as letting them know that we are there for them and are willing to listen to whatever it is that they need us to because at the end of the day we would want someone to do the same for
