The poem is about someone seeing the number 5 on a fire truck, in the rain, as the truck is racing through the city. The image connects the to the poem and also tells the same story as the poem. In the image, the number 5 appears three time in three different sizes. The different sizes creates the illusion that the number 5 is seen as the truck is passing by, hence the number would go from being small to fairly large. The bakground of the image is dark and appears to look like a city street, with different signs scattered about. The image depicts what the street looks like as it is being driven down at a high rate of speed.

Among the rain
Among is a strong word and it sets the scene for the rest of the poem. Among means that the poem is taking place somewhere. At this particular point, the poem is taking place among the rain; which means the setting can be inside or outside. However the next line and lights makes it more evident that the setting is in the rain among some type of society where lights are present. In the third line I saw the figure 5, the narrator of the poem is revealed. Also, the word saw shows that the poem is in past tense and it also suggest that the narrator maybe having a flashback of some sort. Furthermore,using the word figure to describe the number 5 suggests that the number 5 may have some symbolic meaning. The next three lines in gold - on a red - fire truck describes " The Great Figure" that the title refers to. Gold is a very strong color and a color that is used to show the high value of a particular item, like jewelry. So in the poem the gold number 5 is bold and can be seen clearly as lights reflect off of it and the gold is a great contrast against the red fire truck. At this
