Pokemon Go
Here in Groom, Texas, Pokemon Go has a multitude of glitches in its GPS (Global Positioning System) with its Pokestopes and Pokemon Gyms.

First things first, Pokemon Go, an app created by Niantic - The Pokemon Co., imports Pokemon into the world virtually for you to catch and level up yourself . The game, which came out July 5, allows you to discover exciting Pokemon in your area from generation 1 of 6. You can start off the game by learning about the Pokemon in your town and choosing your starter - or Pokemon character you use to begin using for the game. You can choose from a Squirtle, Charmander or Bulbasaur. Like I said, though, in Groom, you will find some additional challenges.

For example Pokemon Go's GPS system mistook a private residence as the local post office. Sisters Chandra and Kirsten Rice happen to live at that house, which is marked as a "Gym" in the game.

(It is) "quite concerning that people stop in front of my house at random hours of the day," Chandra said.

"I've never played it, but I see people play it," the freshman said. "It seems fun."

Kirsten, however, wasn't as positive.

"It makes me mad (to) see random people at my house," the eighth-grader said.

Other glitches include these: The GPS thinks the fire station/public library building is the water tower and another innocent family home as the Fire station.

Pokemon Go is both a good and bad game. For example, here's one of my experiences: I managed walk two miles (exercise - That's good!). But, I didn't even notice that it was getting dark (unaware of surroundings - That's dangerous!)

So, when it comes to this popular app, I suggest you play, but be

In conclusion, I believe that, like everything, Pokemon Go has positive and negative aspects, and that its effects are heavily influenced by the person's use. Meaning that while it can be an application that encourages exploration, physical activity and the apprecitation for nature, it can also reduce our attention spans and make us prioritze our game, instead of human contact, or the appreciation of…

Even though Pokemon Go can be harmful,it also does have a good side too. For example; a person who hates going outside but loves Pokemon Go can easily be convinced because Pokemon are usually outside rather than inside. So that He/She will probably go to the park every changes he/she gets.It is good to be outside because people get more…

Geolocation has truly made an impact on the world. In the past, individuals used to print out their directions and used paper to tell them where to go. The only problem with this is that you could potentially lose the paper or if you wanted to do add a route onto it, there was no possible way because you wouldn’t have access to the Internet. Now with the onslaught of Smartphones, tablets, etc. you can plug in your information and your current location is already saved on the server. You are able to find your current location on your mobile device by the GPS chip that is installed on them. The GPS chip is where all of the data is stored, sent, and received. Smartphones, tablet, and Internet devices all should have GPS chips within their systems. The iPhone and “The iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G models do have built-in GPS chips that receive signals from the global GPS satellite system to determine your location - as closely as three meters, depending the number of satellite signals the chip is receiving. GPS in the iPad 2 is classed as assisted GPS, also known as AGPS, which enhances the performance of standard GPS in devices connected to Wi-Fi or the cellular network. The iPad 2 W-Fi + 3G may be used for the full range of apps that require detailed location information wherever you may be…

That’s my tracker” by Peter Maass and Megha Rajagopalan talk about how our technology is not only for research or entertainment it can be use as a tracker that can affect us in several ways through our self privacy. The article stated, “These invasive services have proved irresistible to consumers, and millions now own sophisticated tracking devices (smartphones) studded with sensors and always connected to the internet” ( Maass, Rajagopalan 2012). Although our technology devices are off, speaker and other services in the device are still on. Some devices work on speaking and others through self movement. Whenever the device is off the internet is connected and notification will still be visible. Anyone can be able to access the speaker and use any information that was spoken of. The article also states, “If someone knows exactly where you are, they probably know what you’re doing.” (Maass, Rajagopalan 2012). This is an argument that has been battled through this situation, and many seem to agree. New apps have been released and location sometimes is required to find surrounding players or people connected. This can be used in different ways and location can cause a certain surrounding that is not friendly. It can be a threat and that is what many mostly worry. Location is a way that privacy is being invaded using this source which is our cell phones. Not necessarily only but that is…

    C. Cell phones are tracked by GPS and can reveal your location. GPS data can reveal whether a person “is a weekly church goer, a heavy drinker, a regular at the gym, an unfaithful husband, an outpatient receiving medical treatment, an associate of particular individuals or political groups — and not just one such fact about a person, but all such facts” ( Maass).…

Our technology is evidently taking society closer to the world of Big Brother with the continuous and rapid advancement of phones. In the article, “That’s No Phone, That’s my Tracker”, Peter Maass and Megha Rajapogalan focus on surveillance technology that we voluntarily carry with us at all times. Almost all smartphones have advanced geographic technology, allowing cellular systems to constantly check and record the location of all phones on their networks. Applications like Google Maps, Twitter, Instagram, and Snap Chat know when and where we go somewhere. It is even more disturbing than it sounds, “New research suggests that by cross-referencing your geographical data with that of your friends, it is possible to predict your future whereabouts with a much higher degree of accuracy” (Maas/Rajagopalan). Privacy settings on many phones pinpoint locations without notifying the user, which highly imitates the telescreens in 1984.…
