Pole Vault Research Paper
It all started in high school. My older sister nagged me into being more active. One day she told me to join track. My first year of high school I brushed it off, but I then saw it, pole vault. Pole vault is an amazing aspect of the sport track and field which requires a lot of strength, speed, and determination.
Being an athlete means helping others. It can be as easy as encouraging a fellow teammate to fix their posture and composure while running, or it can be encouraging them not to quit and give up early. Each team member is valued and treasured. A one man team is rare to come by especially in track, so we think of fellow athletes as special and as something to be desired. Friends encourage each other just as athletes do in order to get stronger. Alone it is hard to finish the race; however, together is where true athletes find their strength. In pole vault strength is a necessity in

At first I was not doing my best, and I knew I could be better if I stayed in it. Luckily, I had a great coach. Every year he took at least one pole vaulter to state in La-Crosse. By my senior year of high school I had the most determination out of anyone to make it to state and to make it on the podium. Since my coaches believed in me, I did just that. I made it to state and took second out of 16 other vaulters. Determination had led me there, and it put me on the podium. I scored eight points for my team. We ended up taking second place overall by two points.
Pole vault was my most favorite activity in high school, and I am stronger faster and way more determined to have my children have that be part of their future. I have also learned that when it comes to a sport such as pole vault people that perform must be fully committed to themselves, and they must have trust with their coaches and teammates. It could be dangerous every time someone goes up for a vault, so trust must be established or else it may be a trip to the

Female athletes are among the most at risk part of the population for developing an eating disorder or patterns of disordered eating behaviors (Hausenblas & Carron, 2002, p.65). Added to the general populations definition of the ideal body, female athletes must attain the ideal shape their specific sport requires. Aesthetic sports such as gymnastics, figure skating, and dance require women to wear limited clothing and have set rules as to what the athlete should look like. The focus of this research will be on former female gymnasts, more specifically, former Division 1 collegiate gymnasts and their patterns of disordered eating. The prevalence of…

One of the most evident changes that I have undergone as a runner is my team. In high school I ran alone with no other girls to stand at the starting line with. Running alone was difficult, but it made it much more comfortable for me, as a runner, to stop thinking so hard about everything that surrounded me and accomplish what I needed to in a race. I didn’t have anyone to compete with and I ran for the joy of running. Nothing else mattered when I ran, not place, not time, not the runners, all that mattered was me crossing the finish line. Six months later, I now have competition that is my teammates; I have a specific time I need to meet, a specific place that I need to cross the finish line and specific jerseys to look for while on the course. I never thought the adjustment to college running would be so difficult for me, but it is changing me as a runner. I am running in my head rather than on the course. I am running against my team rather than with them and this is holding me back from being the runner and the student I need to be, but it is giving me a different outlook on how I can and should run.…

I recall being the youngest girl, cheering with others several years older than me, when I began Area Youth Football cheerleading way back at the age of five. I had tried other sports such as soccer and basketball, however they didn't electrify me as cheerleading did. I instantly fell in love with the sport of cheerleading. To this day, I would not even consider changing my commitment to cheerleading, for it has positively influenced my life and taught me countless lessons that will stick with me forever.…

Gymnastics is a different and interesting sport. Most sports have one thing to focus on. In Gymnastics, there are four events to focus on: the vault, bars, beam and floor. Your hands get ripped, you get sore, you can tear, break, and sprain many parts of your body during practice.. Even when you hurt yourself, you have to get back up and keep going to succeed. Gymnastics is harder than other sports because you have a lot of conditioning, you don’t wear any protective gear, and you have to be hard worker.…

Felicia Lemos Mrs. Radford Scholarship Essay. Starting high school can be very unpredictable, and most of all in sports. When becoming a freshman, there are many differences coming from middle school sports to high school sports. In eighth grade you are a leader. Freshman year you're the underdog, and the seniors know they are the best because they are more experienced and have the most talent. Being one of the youngest pushed me to work harder than ever before. My journey of track showed me that being an underdog does not affect your skill in sports. I worked so hard to reach my goals, and with my perseverance I became one of the fastest people on the track team. The first day of track practice i remember vividly. My coach; Mr. Watson, was…

    Pole Vaulting Technique

Pole vaulting is probably the most technical of athletic events, therefore a considerable amount of time should be spent on understanding and perfecting the technique. There are many areas of instruction in the vault. The pole carry, the run, plant, take off, swing back, extension, and the fly away. The vaulter needs to put all of these together in a vault that last no more than 6 seconds. Technique will improve how a person vaults, but it is no substitute for talent or physical ability. Speed, height, jumping ability, upper body strength, body awareness, and coordination are the main physical qualities needed to become good vaulter. The pole vault really should be visualized as one continuous event starting from the end of the runway to landing into the pit, but to better understand the technique it will be broken up into different sections, which can be worked on individually.…

One of my many happy memories was when I was little and trying each and every sport possible, even wrestling. I have always been active throughout high school playing soccer, basketball, and running track. I was a four year varsity athlete for track & field, along with one year of varsity soccer. Unfortunately I did not play basketball my senior year because of the head coach so I never got to letter. I went to state track for the 4x400m my freshman and sophomore year, which happens to be one of my favorite memories. Being in sports allowed me to make multiple friends while in…
