Second, in any position, if an officer has to make a fast acting judgment, that’s when they can pursue in their carefulness and appropriate judgment for enforcing the law, specifically in a position where it might be treacherous. As a result, the police officer in many circumstances doesn’t have to have probable cause, which would make them make an arrest and do a full search on the suspect. With that being said, police officers also, can’t base an arrest off of a hunch either. They have to have proof or have probable cause and have a reason for their stop (Enotes, 2013).
As a result, the accountability aspect in this situation would be there was strain on doing the stops and to avoid doing them. The police administration, normally would like that a Terry stop be done due to knowing the stops help greatly decrease criminal activity. On the other hand citizens impression on Terry stops, are being done too many times and are targeting different racial groups. Finally, a police officer would have to consider what to do in a Terry stop circumstance, does the police officer stop the person to appease the administration, or does the officer stop them and get accused of police misconduct, or do you just not stop them in fear that if you do the wrong thing then it’s your tail on the line?
