Before I start I should mention the odd way I ended up having the interview with Daniel Smith. Last week the security system in house malfunctioned. Even though it was not armed, it somehow sent a signal that our house had been broken into. He happened to be patrolling nearby the area and was sent to our location.
The Officer that came happened to be him. He checked out and saw everything was fine and then I asked him to allow me to interview him for class and he said yes. I also asked if I could record the conversation so I would be able to play it back for this interview paper later and he said yes. This is why I am using direct quotes. This interview was recorded on october 21.
First I asked him what department he came from. He said he is from the Cumberland Police Department. Then I asked him what made him want to become a police officer. He said “ I think what made me want to become a Police officer is that I wanted to do something that I can impact my community, I can help make my community safer.” he continued “I had seen police portrayed in a way in which I couldn't trust at the time and I wanted to be a police officer that people could trust.”

Smith replied “ Yes, I can only speak for the Cumberland Police Department and I think and we have several mechanisms to ensure that we do, but also we know that we have to stay consistent with our policies and procedures. We have to follow the processes that are in place. I think sometimes people don't like that fact that they don't see as quick of a response as they would like. For example they see some misconduct on behalf of an officer and then the department begins to investigate, but maybe they don't see the outcome immediately. We have to go through that due process
