The American Revolutionary War, also known as the American War of Independence, was a conflict that erupted between Great Britain, and its American colonies from 1775 to 1783. In 1775 British soldiers invaded America with the intention to rule the country. The American War of Independence lasted for eight years and over time the War tore American and British relationships apart. Many factors contributing to this war include political and economic reasons.
When the French-Indian War ended in 1761, there were political problems arising between Britain and France. The treaty signed that ended the war gave Britain almost all of France's territory and colonies in North America. British troops were sent to the city of Boston to discourage demonstrations of American revolutionists who were protesting the Townshend Acts. Due to the constant harassment and frustration by the citizens, a squad of nine British soldiers were struck by snow and ice balls with rocks inside. The British soldiers retaliated and fired into the crowd killing five men. The eight soldiers and their commanding officer were trialled for murder. Two of the soldiers were declared guilty of manslaughter and the other soldiers, including the commanding officer, were set free. Rumors and details of the event were told and spread throughout Boston with the British soldiers claiming that it was the Boston citizens' fault for the deaths and those who witnessed the Boston Massacre claimed it was the British soldiers fault. This caused the people of Boston to feel anti-British' and made them think that this was how they would be treated in the
