Political Party Essay
Are you liberal or conservative? As you begin to read this essay you will begin to see that I’m a very moderate conservative. You’ll see my views on gay marriage, stem cell research, abortion and all those other great social issues. I’ll tell you how I feel about the current Oregon state senate race between Jeff Merkley and Monica Wehby and who I would vote for. My views on foreign policy and veterans are clearly stated and clearly conservative. But you will get to delve into my liberal side and see how I feel about their issues. The question of “are you conservative or liberal?” seems to me like an easy one to answer, But when I sit down and think about it I’m not so sure. On the values worksheets I scored “conservative” on three of them but the other three I was “other”. So this tells me I’m definitely not a liberal, I wouldn’t go as far to say that I’m a full-fledged conservative. While most of my views do line of with those of conservatives I have a few left wing views of my own. Like gay marriage, abortion, assisted suicide, and the use of embryonic stem cells for medical research. Before taking this class I always saw myself as a steadfast conservative but recently I see myself as more of a moderate leaning to the right. The reason I don’t identify as a conservative or liberal is because their views on many issues come off as radical to me. Some examples would be how anti-gay marriage many conservatives are and how staunch liberals want to move away from capitalism and become more socialist, which I believe is a bad idea. The best part of being a moderate is that I can have beliefs that originate from both left and right. Neither conservatives nor liberals have a perfect solution to everything but I personally believe that conservatives have more ideas that appeal to me than liberals and that’s why I lean to the right.
