Politics In Automobile Industry Analysis
Politics can be defined in a number of ways on the basis of its focus, activities and outcomes. In this section, we aim to interpret the relevance of politics in the automobile industry considering the different forms that we have encountered in class.
1) Politics as the Art of Government.
The role of politics is to concern itself with the governance and the administration of the city state. The result of this form is setting up of various institutions responsible for the welfare of the state. The pollution created by cars impacts the life of people. Politics dealing with ethical public affairs aims at laws, rights and a legal system which achieve better governance. There have been various instances when the government has tried to policies pertaining to the ethical problems created by automobiles. The odd-even rule was practiced by the Delhi government to combat the problems of increased pollution and heavy congestion of streets. Many governments offer financial incentives for encouraging automobiles with lower CO2 emissions (Hybrid and the Electric Vehicles) and they impose high taxes on the luxury automobiles with higher CO2 emissions. For ensuring the safety of passengers, various safety norms are set up by the government. In the year 1993 General Motors managed to win a deal that gave the auto maker new ways to avoid paying laid off workers in exchange for little relief from high benefits
