general. I will examine how these categories influence one other, how these categories influence feminism, and how feminism, in turn, influences them, along with how these categories affect women. Specifically, I will argue that the construction of the 'normative', which helps produce feminist theory discourse and action, perpetually reproduces categories of exclusion, through the notions of representation and identity politics, the production of a split between gender and sex, and through Butlers views on gender and performativity.…

Technology is the building block of any society: it allows for new advancements to be made that improve daily life. Two such societies that made advancements in technology included the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire. As the expansion of the empire increased, the Romans built roads that linked these regions together. These roads were built in such a way that allowed for easier travel: roads were paved and allowed for water to run off. In addition, the empire also developed the transportation of water throughout the city through the construction of aqueducts, which were canals. Likewise, the Han Dynasty made advancements in the distribution of water: there were water ways, canals, and pools that were inspected by hydraulic engineers. Water was also used to power a blowing-engine. Because of the advancements that were made, the Han Dynasty is regarded by historians as the “Golden Age.” Similarly, the Romans created a large empire that stretched from Europe to the Middle East. Because of the vastness of both empires, water and technology were heavily relied upon, yet unlike the Han officials, the upper-class Romans had a negative attitude towards technology.…

Instructions: The following list of questions is designed to assist you in your reading of much of the course material. I strongly encourage you to write out full answers to each of these questions as you read the material for class. I will use these questions to formulate quiz and exam questions. For short-answer quizzes and exam questions you will have to answer a subset of the actual questions on the study guides for the assigned readings. For multiple-choice quizzes I will draft questions based on the study questions. I reserve the right to quiz or test you on additional material assigned and/or discussed in class during this semester that may not be on this study guide. You will have 15 minutes from the beginning of class to complete short-answer quizzes and 10 minutes to complete multiple-choice quizzes. Most quizzes will be announced one class period before they are given, but I may administer pop quizzes…from time to time (so always keep up with the reading!). Questions about the assigned readings from news articles are also a possibility on all quizzes. Quizzes will be closed book, no-notes, and individual exercises. This set of study guide questions will also act as your study guide for the final exam. Do note that the purpose of such exercises is for you to show me that you have read and understood the material and can communicate that understanding in writing.…

I will begin to explore the important works of classical political thinkers such as Aristotle. After the classical political thinkers, I will move on to analyze the work of modern thinkers such as Machiavelli and Rousseau. In addition to analyzing the political works I will examine how women have struggled against these depictions. Women Suffrage Movement would be considered our first wave of feminism so I believe it’s important to begin with this movement and their struggles. The second wave of feminism will also be evaluated which consisted of feminist fighting for civil rights and against racism some of them were Angela Davis and Audre Lorde. Lastly the third wave of feminism payed more attention to immigrant women, sexuality and the concept of intersectionality. In this section I will focus on viewing the works of Gloria Anzaldua, Judith Butler and Patricia Hill…
