Environmental pollution is one of the biggest problems the world faces today. It is an issue that troubles us economically, physically and everyday of our lives. The contamination of the environment is also being linked to some of the diseases that are around currently. Yet, most people do not know about this problem. This shows that environmental pollution is becoming an increasingly worse problem that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible, not only for the good of the environment but also for the people that live in it. Many factors are present for why environmental pollution has become such a large issue in the world. However, if the people of the world were to address the issue it would definitely help both the environment and it's people. There are many activities that can be done by both the common citizen to the governments of the world, which could severally improve the world's environmental problem. On the other hand, if the current way the world's environmental problem is being handled continues, catastrophic consequences can follow for the future population.

Pollution is any process that results into adverse change in environment. The processes greatly affect people’s lifestyles and daily activities. Pollution may occur in different aspects of the environment as well as from various dimensions. For instance, improper disposal of industrial waste materials may result into contamination of water meant for human consumption. Consequently, use of the contaminated water without treatment causes diseases. Therefore, it is important to establish a functional waste management plan to keep off negative impacts of environmental pollution arising from improper disposal of waste. This is in line with the saying that prevention is better than cure.

Pollution is one of the biggest challenges faced by the world today. All the countries are adopting more and more laws on pollution reduction. Still, governmental actions cannot guarantee the complete elimination of this problem. The most important problem faced by the modern world today is environmental pollution. Unless and until effective measures are adopted to prevent this grave problem, it is going to affect life on earth. Man has exploited the natural resources in order to meet the demands of the ever-increasing population and also to meet the requirements of industries. As the demand for basic things like food, water, clothes and shelter increased; man exploited natural resources like minerals, forests, water and agriculture. Even today, scientists are making efforts to produce more and more goods using the latest technology. All these have resulted in environmental pollution.
Water is very necessary for life. But it is polluted. The major factors of water pollution are sewage and domestic wastes, industrial effluents, agricultural discharges, fertilizers and. pesticides, toxic metals, thermal waste and radioactive materials. Sea water gets polluted by the waste thrown out from cargo ships and by the dumping of wastes from nuclear reactors. People throw dead bodies of men and animals into the rivers. Villagers bathe their cattle in ponds and rivers. All these go to pollute the water, make it unfit for drinking, and ruin all forms of life in the water.
Air pollution or atmospheric pollution is mainly caused by the gases given out by burning petroleum products, coal, firewood etc. Vehicles emit large amounts of gaseous pollutants into the air. The exhaust gases from automobiles and factories add to the air, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, dust etc. Such polluted atmosphere causes acid rain. It is now calculated that the content of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased by 25% in the last 100 years. The mean temperature of the atmosphere has increased from .3°C to .7°C during the period. Carbon monoxide leads to respiratory problems and acid rains due to sulphur dioxide damage crops, plants and marble buildings. Smoke causes pollution in big industrial cities. The ozone layer has depleted to the extent of 3 to 4% in the last 100 years. Chloro-fluro-carbons escaping from damaged fridges, air-coolers, sprays and artificial aerosoles, destroy the ozone layer. Supersonic aeroplanes seeking this zone for their flight consume ozone largely and replace it with carbon-dioxide.
Sound pollution is also very harmful. Loud sounds of buses, trains, aeroplanes etc. cause sound pollution. The loud noise of heavy machines in factories, industries and workshops also causes sound pollution. Loudspeakers, radio and television sets are injurious when these are tuned at full volume. Too much noise affects the nervous system, and causes deafness and mental diseases.
The most dangerous pollution is that of radioactivity. Leakage from a nuclear reactor and disposal of nuclear wastes cause pollution. When blasts take place, plant and animal life is destroyed and many people die of fatal diseases like cancer. The biological environment is polluted due to the excess use of pesticides and insecticides.
Environmental pollution-is a global problem today. Public awareness is a must to prevent pollution. Population control will also help to save the world from environmental pollution. Scientific exploitation of natural resources is yet another step to prevent environmental pollution.

The result of some of today's technological advances is extreme pollution. It can be seen, heard, tasted or even smelt as we drive along our main roads, stroll along our sidewalks or even from the supposing comfort of our home. Also the very food we eat might be polluted though we may not be aware. In this essay I will be discussing the main causes and effects of air, water and noise pollution. Pollution in its many forms is causing increasing damaging to our natural resources and health and lifestyles.
Carbon dioxide is one the main causes of air pollution. Even though humans exhale carbon dioxide, this gas is harmful when emitted from other sources, which are caused due to human activity. Carbon dioxide gas is used in various industries such as the oil industry and the chemical industry. The manufacturing process of most products requires the use of this gas. Also the combustion of fossil fuels and the harmful effects of deforestation have all contributed. Amongst the various gasses emitted during a volcanic eruption, carbon dioxide remains to be at least 40% of the emission. Scientists have identified carbon dioxide as one of those elements that are contributing to global warming. When fuels are burned, some of the pollutants released are greenhouses gases. Though through the process of photosynthesis, plants convert carbon dioxide into oxygen and use the carbon to grow larger. The amount of carbon dioxide released by burning fuels is much more than plants can convert.
Many industrial facilities use clean water to carry away waste from their plants and dump it into rivers, lakes and oceans. Furthermore domestic households, industrial and agricultural practices produce wastewater that may cause pollution. Human infectious diseases are among the most serious effects of water pollution, especially in developing countries, where sanitation may be inadequate or non-existent. Waterborne diseases occur when parasites or other disease-causing microorganisms are transmitted via contaminated water. These include typhoid, intestinal parasites, and most of the diarrheal diseases caused by bacteria, parasites, and viruses. Among the most serious parasitic diseases are amoebiasis, giardiasis, ascariasis, and hookworm. Water pollution can make fish sick and even can kill them. Humans are the biggest threat to fish. There are many ways that humans pollute waters. Some of those ways are by dumping oil, radioactive waste and trash into rivers, lakes and seas. This sort of pollution over these years is only increasing at a staggering rate.
Noise pollution from ship engines and sonar systems make it difficult for marine mammals like whales, dolphins, and porpoises to communicate, find food, and avoid hazards. Powerful sonar systems operating at certain frequencies may cause damage to marine mammals' sound-sensitive internal structures, causing internal bleeding and even death. Noise pollution can cause annoyance and aggression, hypertension, high stress levels, hearing loss, sleep disturbances, and other harmful effects. Furthermore, stress and hypertension are the leading causes to health problems. A comparison of Maaban tribesmen, who were insignificantly exposed to transportation or industrial noise, to a typical U.S. population showed that constant exposure to moderately high levels of environmental noise contributes to hearing loss. High noise levels can contribute to cardiovascular effects and exposure to moderately high levels during a single eight hour period causes a statistical rise in blood pressure of five to ten points and an increase in stress and vasoconstriction leading to the increased blood pressure.
As this essay clearly shows air, water and noise pollution drastically affect humans and our natural habitats. So please reader think twice about dumping garbage into rivers or streams think of the long term effects of that garbage on not only you but on the fish in that stream or where that stream will run. Also what will happen when someone eats that contaminated fish or drinks the contaminated water, because It is evident that pollution in its many forms is causing increasing damaging to our natural resources and health and we as humans need to be more careful about what we do.
