Introduction
Saint Polycarp is the bishop of Smyrna and holy martyr is also one of the many fore fathers of the church. He was also a strong witness and teacher for the apostolic traditions of the early Christian church. Remained a loyal witness, he led a life of a true apostle that he intended for the Lord. As a Christian and committed follower of Christ, Polycarp stood up and defended his faith, even though he had been threaten for his life. Basically, this write up gives an account of Polycarp’s history and his life story.
Polycarp Origin
Saint Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna (modern Izmir, Turkey) was a disciple of St John anda notable figure in the history of Christianity.
About 69 A.D Polycarp was born, unfortunately into a non-Christian home. In fact, his birthplace was unknown, for he appeared on the scene of the church history in a strange and mystifying way.
Polycarp was adopted by a wealthy woman named Callisto,. Actually, Callisto didn’t adopted Polycarp by her own choice, but on a vision. In fulfillment of that vision, Callisto brought Polycarp into her home and taught him the ways of the Lord, provided for his education and gave him evidence of the work of the spirit of Christ in his heart. He was kind towards those with whom he associated, much given to the study of scripture, and diligent in witnessing to others of his faith.
