Polygamy In America

Polygamy is the practice of having more than two people in a relationship or in marriage. Polygamy has been practiced for many centuries and has been practiced by many different individuals and cultures all around the world. Polygamy was accepted by different societies and as time passed by it was accepted in many countries around the world. Polygamy has been a controversial issue in America and has affected our society for over a thousand years. I am against polygamy because it is capable of destroying the importance of marriage and the intimacy between husband and wife. Not only does it affect marriage but it also affects the values of society. As we are young we are taught that relationships and normal marriages should be between two and only two individuals but religion changes their point of view. The practice of polygamy leads to changes in social values and the way they view marriage. One main reason people follow polygamy can be because they believe they are following a right they have which is freedom of choice. Freedom of choice itself can mean to choose and do what makes you happy which is marrying whom you love. Many people are lead into polygamy because of the saying “marry who you love”, which leads them to think that if they love more than one person they’re allowed to marry all of them. Sometimes people can feel sad, depress, stressed out, or might need someone to talk to which they will always have because polygamy can create a better and stronger support system in which there will be more family to talk
