Ponyboy Play Monologue
The next thing I knew I was curled up on the pavement a few paces away from the choking Ponyboy. I felt like stabbing myself with the switch in my hands as I watched the prone body of the drunk Soc lying next to me. At that moment there was a silent battle raging inside my head, I wanted to run away and hide and leave Ponyboy but also how I wanted to just start that night over.
“We can’t just waste time here,” I was starting to get frantic. Then, I saw Ponyboy get up and stare at the dead body. “Johnny I think I’m gonna be sick,” he sounded like he was struggling to keep on his feet.
“Go ahead I won’t look,” then he ran over to the play structure and was sick for a full minute. Afterwards he said ”what happened?” “They were going to drown you and I was scared, I was scared for you. I was scared about what

Along with a copy of “Gone With The Wind” or any other books they could find so Ponyboy could read on the trip. We all came back carrying a few things each, we had a hard time finding Enough money though. We guessed that we had enough to make it to Canada but I was kind of skeptical of that because of food but I suppressed that negative comment and went along with the plan that Dally and Ponyboy had created. We left for the Bus station at 2:00am and all of us were groggy and not right in the head, at least I reasoned that saying that we left half of our money with Dally. We got onto the old greyhound headed to the Canadian border without much hassle and got out of without much hassle also. All hell broke loose when Ponyboy wanted to buy a Hot Ramen and I looked into the pack we had put together and found 57 dollars, by the way we had found 120 dollars, we started to get scared.
“What are we going to do” Ponyboy whisperes

The Curtis boys eat chocolate cake every morning, page 105 says this “The first one up has to make breakfast, I started to find the eggs we need for our chocolate cake we eat every morning for breakfast, along with our chocolate milk.” This is some proof that Ponyboy should go to the system. He would be better off with the system because, the cake has a lot of sugar and it’s he’s eating a block of sugar everyday. So if Ponyboy stays with Darry he could get bad stomach problems involving diabetes and stomach and health issues. So the opponents that are on Darry’s side might argue that “ He’s a kid let him eat what he wants.” Then back to the system side, “ What’s good with letting him eat what he wants, when it could lead him to health issues, body problems, and possibly dying. So now that the system has a step up, Ponyboy will be better off with the system because they will make sure he gets a good breakfast EVERY MORNING!…

The real main character of The outsiders is still Ponyboy. After all it seems like he wrote the book because of one full circle quote. “ When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home…” (Pg 1 and 180). In addition to having him write the book he is ultimately the main character because it is written from his point of view. For example, almost every line in the book has him thinking in it or describing something through his eyes. “I had walked down…” (Pg 31) or “...this church gave me a creepy feeling.” (Pg 67). All in all Ponyboy has changed as a character through the book and is indeed the main character.…

Near the end of the novel Johnny is expressed as being humorous by the reference ""They treating you okay kid?" "Don't – Johnny gasped, don't let me put enough grease in my hair."" This shows that he is trying to have a good outlook on life even though he is slowly dying. The quote also shows that Johnny wants to make his friends feel better even though he, himself is in pain. At the end of the book Johnny is shown as being a pacifist in the quote ""We beat the socs." "Useless fighting's no good." [Pg 148] The quote shows that Johnny has become a person who doesn't tolerate violence in his life. It also indicates…

Originally, Johnny was a very quiet person, who always seemed suspicious. Then, Johnny tells Dally to stop messing with Cherry when Dally tried to put his arm around her. This is very strange because Johnny is very timid, and “Johnny [worships] the ground Dallas [walks] on, and [Ponyboy] never heard Johnny talk back to anyone, much less his hero” (25). This is the first time Johnny has ever talked back to anyone, and Johnny did it to his hero, Dally. Although he was nervous when he said it, Johnny is not afraid to stand up for others, even it meant going against your hero’s wishes. Another incident is in the park, where he and Ponyboy are jumped by the Socs. Johnny takes out his switchblade not to threaten the Socs, but actually to kill their leader, Bob. This is a real turning point for Johnny in the book because Johnny never killed anything, but he intentionally took out a person’s life! Additionally, it is not Johnny that goes sick, but it is Ponyboy. One would think that Johnny would get sick because he is very nervous and he has never killed anyone, especially since this time was an intentional murder. Johnny just becomes pale and scared. But Ponyboy, the spectator, gets sick, and he “leaned back and closed [his] eyes so [he] wouldn’t see Bob lying there” (57). Johnny actually helps Ponyboy get out of his…

Well the rest of the book he isn’t like that;He is more uneasy meaning causing or feeling anxiety;troubled or uncomfortable. Pony says”I had never been jumped, but I had seen Johnny after the after four Socs got hold of him, and it wasn't pretty. Johnny was scared of his own shadow after that. He was sixteen then.” Hinton tries to display Johnny’s uncomfortableness of going out alone and how scared he was after he got jumped. This whole book even with the church incident Johnny can be displayed as a uneasy character.…

At the same instant the sweat in my eyebrows dripped down over my eyelids all at once and covered them with a warm, thick film. My eyes were blinded behind the curtain of tears and salt. All I could feel were the cymbals of sunlight crashing on my forehead and, indistinctly, the dazzling spear flying up from the knife in front of me. The scorching blade slashed at my eyelashes and stabbed at my stinging eyes. That's when everything began to reel. The sea carried up a thick, fiery breath. It seemed to me as if the sky split open from one end to the other to rain down fire. My whole being tensed and I squeezed my hand around the revolver. The trigger gave; I felt the smooth underside of the butt; and there, in that noise, sharp and deafening at the same time, is where it all started. I shook off the sweat and sun. I knew that I had shattered the harmony of the day, the exceptional silence of a beach where I'd been happy. Then I fired four more times at the motionless body where the bullets lodged without leaving a trace. And it was like knocking four quick times on the door of unhappiness.…

I had no choice it was either him or the damnation of my people. My hands were quivering with fear, sweat was dripping from my forehead as I made the decision to kill him. The man that sat in my barber shop chair had killed 14 of my friends and had death on his mind, the devil was at work in this man. Tension was rising, I walked across the empty room sharpening the blade of my silver razor, I continued to shave his beard as any good barber would have, each stroke smother than the other, as I whispered into his ear “Forget your regrets, your life has reached its end.” In a swift movement the deed was done. The warm liquid trickled down my wrist alerting me of the seriousness of my action. Quick! the blood will stain my leather chairs, time is of the essence to discard this decaying body! I lifted the body but had no place to put it, I hid it in the attic without a second guess . Thoughts were racing through my mind at speeds that couldn't be measured, in no time the blood started to drip from the forever old "Torres's barber shop" ceiling. I was a murderer. Could I live with myself ? the front door of my shop swung open. I realised someone was talking to me but I couldn't understand what he was saying, for my own screams drowned out the words from the man standing at my front…
