Pop Science Article Analysis
The wording of the title can easily tell someone if the article they are about to read is a pop science article or a scientific article.

The articles I am analyzing discuss how the decline of large mammal populations is leading to disease risk in smaller mammals, particularly rodents. People around the world consume numerous goods every day. There are several things that determine what quantities and how frequently they are consumed and those influences can either work in tandem or act individually to influence a person. It is these foundations that set an average for what consumers will purchase and the volume of goods to be created by agriculturalists and industrialists. This is known as economic consumption patterns, and these patterns are carefully studied by economists. With the data that they glean from this assessment economists can then use that information to provide the economy with data about the supply and demand of those goods and services.…

According to K and S the title should not be rhetorical rather it should be descriptive, that is, titles are designed to give information, not to attract attention (K and S 33). Quinn's title of his article, "Coyote (Canis latrans) Food Habits in Three Urban Habitats Types of Western Washington," (Quinn 89) is not descriptive in any means. It dose not invite the reader to read it, but what it dose do is completely inform the reader to what the article is going to be about. Quinn includes intricate details that inform his audience what the article is going to entail such as using the scientific name for the coyote, Canis latrans. In his title Quinn also gives what he will be studying and the location of his study. This information is pertinent to his audience, because it informs them not only to what he studied but the location of the coyotes that he is studying.…
