Greek religion and Greek mythology has affected Greece in a significant way. The religion was the most popular throughout the time period from 1800 BC to 146 BC. During this time, it affected Greece’s architecture, political structure and its arts.

For example, one continuing theme in Greek mythology is a hero is often struck down for thinking himself equal to the gods, a sin called huberis. A man was taught he has a place beneath gods as perhaps a way to keep people in line. Myths that were taught about the gods with the topic include when the god Prometheus had defied the kind of gods, Zeus by giving a man fire, he was kicked out of heaven and bound to a rock where he would lay as vultures ate him alive, but being immortal, he would heal each day and go through the same punishment continuously and relive the pain and horror. Another main myth that is commonly taught is when Zeus stepped out of place and challenged the throne of god and as punishment he was cast down to hell.
